Has anyone experimented with equal length tubes in a custom header type exhaust manifold? It would seem to me that by running equal length tubes from each cylinder to the turbo, you would have a more constant flow of exhaust gasses, rather than the peaks and valleys in drive pressure that we might be getting from unequal length "tubes" in the stock exhaust manifold. Maybe due to the high drive pressures we have, this equalization would have very minimal effects. Maybe it would only affect spool up? Any thoughts?

My initial thought is that you are right about the drive pressure negating most of the gain. Of course, anything to help flow will help horsepower although it might be so small it would be difficult to measure.

A member made a pretty slick looking manifild a year or two ago out of tubing. You might try a search to see if you turn anything up. I remember he mentioned that he thought it helped a bit but I don't recall if he ever dynoed it.
