Is there any difference between a 12v and 24v exhaust manifold? Will a 24v exhaust manifold fit on a 12v motor?

Is there an answer to this question regarding the 24v exhaust manifold to the 12v engine? I am currently doing an engine conversion and I need to move the turbo close to the engine such as the 24 setup.

As far as I know the 24v manifold will not fit on the 12v due to the port shape difference. I think the 24v have round exhaust ports and the 12v have rectangular ports. I have not seen the difference in person to determine whether one could port out either manifold to port match them and make them work but anything is possible. Also, not sure if the bolt patterns are the same on either manifold.

The bolt pattern is my biggest concern, does anyone know if they are different between 12 and 24 v. If it will bolt up I will install it and deal with the round ports versus the square. Thanks for your reply.

Marty, I remember looking at a 12 and 24 valve head and thinking the exhaust manifold would never swap out. Check for yourself to be sure before too much time and effort!

Have a Manifold for you

Hi Marty, I have a 12v manifold that has the turbo position the same as on the new '03 engine. Pm me and give me your phone # and we will see if it will work for you.

Thanks Greg,

It was a pleasure to speak with you this evening.

Once again I must say what a pleasure and benefit it is to be a member of the TDR. It is great to be associated with so many knowledgeable and generous people. Now on with the E250 4x4 Cummins conversion!

The Verdict?

Well, what was the verdict on whether a 24v manifold could be installed on a 12v? Or vice versa?

Wow I totally forgot once I found out that Greg had a bolt up manifold for my application. I was trying to find out if the 24v manifold would fit the 12v because I need to relocate the turbo and the 24v manifold is $220 from Dodge instead of $560 for a frieghtliner manifold from cummins.

No

The ports are a different shape, and don't provide overlap enough to work with any known gasket.

The square peg/round hole syndrome

Sorry. Greg L
