Im running a 3. 5 straight pipe ATM On my 2004 its been on since 2004 when I bought the truck its starting to rot a little what would be the next best system that would be the closet match in sound and performance WITH a muffler to reduce inside the truck noise?

rjones You will get a lot of answers to this question so I will just say what I have just completed and what I have seen as a result.

I just completed an install of a diamond ey 4" straight pipe kit, part # K4218S (409 stainless system) and then installed Donaldson muffler part # M090544. The results I like very well. The outside noise level is a little louder and more of a big rig while the inside noise level is much lower, I can run the radio at two volume levels lower while on the freeway.

While some people want the truck louder and some want them quieter I wanted better flow/mileage/drive ability without sacrificing my hearing and I got what I was looking for. :)

just my 2 cents worth

I'm with Dave on this. I have the MBRP turbo back with their muffler and I like the sound. She barks a little when you get on it but to me at least it is quiet on the road. You're gonna get a ton of opinions on this one!

rjones, I just put on a 5" MBRP turbo back on mine because I was looking for better flow (mainly reduced EGT) and since the truck's stock exhaust is already 4", I thought "if I'm gonna buy a new system, why not go bigger?". I didn't really care much about the sound. After install I can tell you it is definitely louder (not a big surprise) but had quite a drone to it inside the cab until I modified the intake and put an Amsoil eA filter on it. Now the drone is gone and just a little louder inside the truck than stock. I'm happy now with the resuts and EGT is somewhere in the neighborhood of 150-200* lower. Also, I couldn't use the SMARTY on anything above level 3 without EGT issues. Now I can run SW9 without seeing EGT over 1200* :) (unless I stay on it for an extended period of time). With all my primary concerns addressed I also like the sound over the stock system and the turbo spools up faster.

I've had a 5" Turbo back from BD on my truck since '05. It was very reasonable to buy and has held up great to our Alaska weather, salt and gravel roads. It fit in the stock location and took an hour or so to bolt it in and tack weld. Sounds great when you put your foot in it,yet you can carry on a conversation going down the road. I've been told my truck sounds healthy and with the 5" the turbo really sings out the pipe.

Silverline makes a good exhaust,I've had mine on for 4 years and it's just the 409 SS and has held up really well . Still sounds good and has a good deep tone to it.

I have 4"Bully Dog turbo back with chrome turn down. It has Big truck sound outside but very low noise in the cab. Radio is on the same volume as with stock 3". Dropped EGT by 150-200* not loaded and more when pulling 40' Gooseneck.

Update: well I patched my exhaust and patched it... no more patching I ordered the MBRP xp series 4" exhaust hope it sound as good as the straight exhaust... .

Diesel Performance System Inc. has high quality, mandrel bend, turbo back complete exhaust systems for under $400. 00. Give them a look before you buy one of the "big name" brands. Diesel Performance Systems System Pickup Truck Exhaust Parts Chevy Dodge Ford
those are aluminized for that price I got stainless for $496. with free freight and free SS tip plus MBRP exhaust has the hanger bars welded to the pipe not a bunch of muffler clamps with the bars welded on I'll stick with the more professional looking system... .

MPRB a good choice...

I've got an 04. 5 that was 4" straight piped from the turbo back. Had it like his for a few weeks before installing an MPRB MK96116 muffler. I was very satisfied with the tone and sound... still has that open pipe sound but just a bit more mellow. I do get quite a few compliments from fellow black smoke lovers on the nice sound.

There is definitely a nice low rumble at idle

They make both stainless and alum.
Hmmm they hide it pretty well , everything on their website says aluminzed ..... at least for the Dodges ... . Oh well I guess if you want aluminized its ok but still close to everyone else price wise;)
