Greetings everyone, have been gone for awhile, due to server problems. Its great to be bake. Have a question or two about exhaust system/s. 1st, recently lost tail pipe, rusted off at muffler, n apparent problems as yet. My question is w/o tailpipe, do I have to worry about the temp from the exhaust damaging anything on the undercarriage, w/o the tailpipe to channel it out the back? Secondly and I know this will be opinions, should i just replace with reg steel exhaust, or go with stainless? Does anyone make it(stainless) for my 95? Looking for your vakued imput, thanks to you all.

To answer your question, yes there are a couple of stainless exhuasts on the market. Banks makes one that I have seen, it was nice!!! The price of the stainless systems is huge though, I think you are staring 9 bills + right in the eye to start and some of the systems go up to 1500. The stock type of steel will go another 5-7 years in your area. You might be able to get a stock system that was taken off another members truck to put on really cheap, and good 4" aluminized steel aftermarket systems can be had for about 4 bills and up. I live in the same climate you do and will tell you that aluminized steel is the minimum, non coated steel will be gone in short order with as much salt as they use.

If you leave the pipe broken off under the truck you could burn something, I would put a turn down tip on it at least and make sure that no soft parts were near the exit. Hope this helps.

The only problem will be the odd black subtance that seems to stick to things under there :) Seriously though I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as stainless vs. alumanized steel. You really need to keep the truck a long, long time to justify the cost of stainless IMO. FWIW - The alumanized steel holds up much better on a diesel than a gasser.

Walker makes a nice replacement just for you, a 4" muffler followed by a 4" tailpipe. I believe 21471 is the 4" muffler. Cannot find the tailpipe number. You will also need a 3 to 4 adapter being the cat no longer fits under there.

edit;

Aluminum flash coated steel is very good quality. No need to spend the extra $$$$$ for a SS system unless you really really really want to spend the extra money for top quality.

54150 is the number for the tailpipe. I tried to install the tailpipe on my truck and couldn't make it work without removing the spare tire. I don't know why. This is the same tailpipe that Walker includes with their 4" CAT back system designed for our trucks.

My sincerest thanks to all of you that replied, you guys are the best. This is my favorite reason for belonging to this great org, the endless wealth of info available from so many knowledgable sources. Thanks again, looks like I'm going to stay with the alumzd steel.
