Exhaust Question?

I installed an 4in exhaust from the Big Exhaust website I believe made by Shop Diesel for a 1993 extended cab long bed 4x4

and my question is has anyone else bought this exhaust? The exhaust when put on the truck fits like the stock around the T-case but then the next section of pipe had an wierd bent that makes the whole pipe visibly hang below the chassis. After theis the muffler eliminator pipe goes on followed by the tail pipe which goes over the axel. This whole thing drives me nuts because the exhaust all fits right but hangs down. Have I in some way installed this wrong or is it a poorly designed exhaust?

Probly cheap poorly designed kit. I have this kit (with muffler) as well. I know another member installed the same kit with muffler and yes it hangs low on mine and his. Not bad unless you're 4 wheeling alot. On edit: I forgot to say I really like the kit. I am very pleased with it. When my crew cab gets converted, I will buy there again, with muffler .

Ok, thanks for the response, it is a friends truck which I basically do all the work to and he will not wheel it. The kit is not only designed poorly it lacks any way to hang the thing up, we had to use wire temporarily until he bought some other hangers and clamps.

THanks for the feedback, negative though it may be, it seems forward and honest. I had wondered about them since they came onto the TDR scene (discovered by someone and they posted the link) a few years ago. In their defense, though, the website said a while back, "hanger kit not included. "



I did a "custom" job on mine, bought 90* and 45* elbows, and cut and bent them to where they needed to go. It tucked up under the frame better than stock, and I used electicc fence posts- cut and bent to fit- for the hangers- they are about the right diameter to fit through parts store rubber hangers. Just make sure if you use used ones, they dont have too much rust or the "hanger" wil fall off, forcing you to drive without a tailpipe for a week. THough that DOES make for a nice big rig sound.

yes, I have recently installed this kit and actually had the muffler shop do it for me in order to weld all the new rubber mounted hangers in place, et. al. I did notice that the long extension hangs fairly low, but not too bad. however it is a well built kit imho and it sounds awesome, and was real cheap. I heard that these guys supply the 4" tailpipe to a lot of differnent kit makers/suppliers/distributors whom often mark it up $$$. I also have it straight piped. I simply did not use the muffler replacement pipe for my regular cab and it fit like a glove.

I installed the big exhaust.com kit on my W-250. Yes, I did have to fabricate my own hangers, but I knew that going in. Yes, the muffler and tailpipe do hang a little lower than necessary, but not too low IMHO. I was amazed at how the 4" pipe was precisely bent to fit and clear around the transfer case. Oh, and by the way, this exhaust system looks identical to others sold for considerably more $$$ ( no names mentioned ). Yesssir, I like it!..... Kenny

I've used the big exhaust.com kit on two trucks and loved it on both. It does, however, hang down lower than the stock one like you said, but I don't four-wheel in anything but snow or the occasional muddy job site usually.

I'm thinking that maybe the drop down if to allow space for the muffler. With the muffler elimination pipe it would look like it could have gone up higher. Just a guess. I installed mine in a '85 crew conversion so I knew in advance that I'd have to make my own hangers. I also had to add a small extention to make it fit the length of the cab.

Its not that I dont like it but I thought it could have been made a little better. We went out to Napa and got universal hangers and some more 4in clamps. The pipe is in place now, it doesnt look bad i was just wondering why it was how it was and it sounds good to.

I thought I might mention that old conveyor belt makes great pipe hangers.
