I thought about this idea first when two things happened.

1. I went on a 3 hour drive at 70MPH with my Straight Piped truck.

2. I saw Evan A. Beck's old post about a dealer smashing up his truck, I saw his signature.

When I went on that "drive" my Family was with my, and we all had some descent Mind numbness from the Exhaust resonating in the cab. See signature for current exhaust setup.

I was THINKING, after seeing Evan's Post. . That, If I put a dual 3" or 4" Exhaust right after the Turbo Down-pipe and routed the pipe out the back Just like the stock exhaust locations,, Difference being. . One Exhaust exit on each side behind mudflap.

Would dual exhaust Take out the Cab resonance? or make it worse?

*I* REALLY like the Straight piped 3" Exhaust sound, and Loudness, But Highway trips are torture.
Trying to talk normal at 70-75MPH is almost impossible.
Music makes all the problems go away. :p But it is impossible to listen to music all the time.

Suggestions. . ?
I have the ATS Manifold, and that Decreased the resonance ALOT, but still resonance becomes bothersome after 3 Hours of driving 70.

I cut out a chunk of the pipe and installed about 18" of flex. It made a big difference in the drone in my truck. I also installed a walker muffler (can't remember the #, see sig) and it really took care of my freeway drone, but it makes the truck sound pretty odd at times. I wouldn't recommend it if you haven't heard it on someone else's truck.

Good luck,
Mike

I pulled the rear seat out and installed 1" sound deadning foam purchased at West Marine $50. 00 Was GREAT IMPROVEMENT. Before I could not hear my son speak from the back seat (Not always a bad thing!) Now much of the harmonic seems to be damped out. Next is the engine room kit from APC. The kit is supposed to reduce the clatter by 3Db which is 50% reduction. Costs $1000. 00 .

After I straight piped mine, I wondered how the drone would affect the family on long trips.
After about an hour or less into the trips, I have no one to talk to because they're all asleep and remain that way for about 2 hours.

The sound is better than a Lullaby everytime! #ad

Be careful of the sound deadening kits that invlolve covering the exhaust manifold or exhaust side of the turbo. Speaking from past expieriences with insulating any of the above mentioned items they will shorten the lifespan of them not to mention increase you inlet air temps since the turbo will not be able to shed as much heat and will instead pass more heat to the compressor side of the turbo. I have also seen exhaust manifolds crack due to exxsessive heat buildup caused by these blankets.
