Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Exhaust sound?

I installed a 4" down pipe with 5" all the way except I put the stupid muffler on! I thought I'd hear alot of turbo whistle at idle, but you can barely hear any! Is that because of the muffler? It's a straight thru one so I did'nt think it would take that sweet whistle away! Is this why I can't hear it? I do have a ton of whistle under the hood though after I installed the aFe! How much louder is a 5" with out the muffler?

I never got much out of my hy either. In order to get the whistle it has to be staight piped. I finally got mine whistlin than I got a bigger turbo and lost the whistle at idle :{ . . made up for it with the stacks though Oo. Trucks with the hx's seem to whistle real nice

An HY feeding into a 5"? That's funny right there :-laf (sorry couldn't resist)

I was almost as bad running a 5" off my stock HX35/12 when I had my '01. I'm thinking about putting a 5" on my '98.



A bigger turbo will give you more whistle cruising, but the reason you don't hear much at idle bbodammer with a big turbo is the turbine is turning too low of RPM to make much noise.

you are right vaughn Mine sounds awesome under acceleration Oo. Just something I had to give up for a bigger charger :{ I still like to hear the whistle threw other trucks though
