I bought the truck with a BD exhaust brake that a previous owner had installed. How can I tell if the exhaust springs were upgraded or not. Truck is '94 Automatic 4x4.

It is currently gutless (no smoke or rpms) and I am beginning the crusade to an acceptable power level to include the delivery valves and GSK. I am getting the baseline items under control before moving on.

A lot of people didn't put the HD springs in when they have an auto to make it easier on the driveline. Depending on the brand of springs there could be a painted stripe on the exhaust ones. Shadrach

The HD Cummins ones have a white stripe on them and are approx 2 13/16" in free height. Since you have a different brand brake they might havea different color stripe or ? Shadrach

The std springs ( 30# - used from 89-94 ) should have a blue stripe on them and are approx 2 3/16" in free height. The 36 # (used from 95-98 ) springs are approx the same height and don't usually have any paint on them, although I have seen new ones that were all white. You would have to take the springs off the head to measure them. Shadrach
