Im thinking of putting stacks on my '98 Quad cab. Whats a good way to route/ split the piping? Also, how high above the cab should i go too keep noise inside at an acceptable level?

:p :p

Thanks for the useful information, guys. I still havent decided on 4 or 5 inch but im looking forward to this instalation . Oo.

I agree with ChiliDog! :D

If you look around in my Pics you will see how we ran 5" from just off the turbo (4" ID Outlet) Then to 5" all the way back and up thru the bed floor then Y'd it to Dual 5" Stacks.

It sounds great and as the Other Stack Runners will agree... . You will not believe the positive feed back you get from all the "Soccer Mom's" and their kids... . The same ones that used to turn thier Noses up at the Diesel sound/Smell.

They have even saved me from a few speeding tickets... After a short lecture about "Criminal Speeding!" They started chatting with me about the stacks... . It Kills the Wife... Works better than her "Twins" #ad

Oasis-3, didn't you have a parts and price list for the twin stack setup on here before? If someone still has that or the link to it could you post it on here.

Also Oasis, isn't that a little hard on the bed cover? I figured the heat would be too much for it.

Thank You

Thank You Oasis, I'm planning on doing side pipes for my truck since I plan on keeping the topper on it. I think 5 inch duals, one on each side in front of rear tire, will work well. :D

5" with square tubing mount

My setup is currently 4" but I want to up-grade to taller 5" stacks. I used a piece of 4"x4" square tubing and welded the 4" o. d. to 4" id connectors to each end, welded the ends closed too. Then for the input side I welded another 4"-4" connector with a piece of flat iron inside for a positive split on the smoke :)

Then continued down with a 90 elbo and then a 2' piece of flex and then connected to my exhuast

What about chrome vs. stainless? Chrome plated is cheaper, but what about corrosion or bluing? Are there any longterm effects anyone has encounterd usring chrome stacks rather than polished stainless?

Chrome

I prefer everything to be polished stainless until it comes to stacks or exhaust tips. On all of our JOHN DEERE equipment we run strait pipes. All are stainless except for one on the four wheel drive which is chrome. All of the stainless have turned a golden silver color. I suppose you could polish the stainless back to "shiney" but with the stacks being up out of the road grime I went with Chrome.

My 2 cents

I think ive got all that down, now its just a matter of finding a place to get this stuff. I printed Oassis's list for a good idea to start, but i cant make up my mind over turn-out or miter-cut tops:rolleyes: . Ive seen both and like them both.

There is an exaust shop up in columbus that should have what i need, and ill also chek out a place called principal trucking that i have bought elbows from when my tail pipe rusted out.

P. S. -- no hard feelings BBB, I cant nock the new JDs too hard cause the newest one ive beat on the track is like a 1950-somthing styled G. And thats with a `56 Oliver Super 99 GM... ... .

Dad quit farming when i ws a young pup and the 1086 was almost new:)

I don't know how much the stacks are normally, but I found some new chrome "seconds" in Portland OR for $50 or $65 depending on lenght. I don't know how much it would cost to ship. But it might save a few bucks.

A little input on slash cut vs turnouts. Morning dew, damp truck, blow out the pipes at start-up. Turnouts blow out to the side, slash cut blows straight up and settle on the damp truck. Lots of ugly little black spots when the truck dries. Learned this lesson on a Pete.

I sell Dyna flex... It is top quality. . Most of the OEM's use their stuff. It does run alittle more for some of the componets but I can get everything. From Top Quality to Economy.

Also I have found especially during towing that the pipes in the Bed area will get hot enough to melt plastic.

But I can get the Pipes Ceramic Treated and it keeps the heat WAY Down and will not rust!

Kurt:cool: :D

Stacks?? What are you guys talkin' about??

Take ~$1K and you can go for my setup.

Look for the links in my sig. With the way the tips are facing and the way the pipes run underneath the truck exhaust Drone is Non-Exsistent. Excellent Highway Hauler, The pipes never get tooo hot. I did a drive at 90MPH for 45 minutes holding EGT (Pre-turbo) at ~1450* after stopping (Stop, Parking brake, open door, turn and touch) I could touch the pipes without being burned (I guessed about 130*-150*) after shutting the truck down (EGT 350*) I could hold the pipes easily (But not for too long  )
