exhaust suet

I have an 05 with 125000 on it and I"m getting a lot of suet around my tail pipe.

I have removed the cat and I have the banks monster muffler on it. There is so

much suet in the muffler I can shake it out like a salt shaker. it doesn't blow a lot of black smoke, just a little on a hard take off. is this normal ? I'm only getting 16-17 miles per gal with my bully dog set on tow/economy. It's about the same if I put it back to stock just less power. I don't work my truck very hard just use it for an every day driver. Is it just me or do I have something wrong

When the truck was new and stock, I had a lot of soot build up on my tailgate. Once I got the newest flash from the dealer it stopped. Now with my Smarty Jr, I can get a bit of soot as well. I think your main problem is never working the motor and your programmer It never really gets a chance to blow all of it out. Find a buddy with a 10k trailer that needs to be moved and drive it around for a while. Make sure your air and fuel filters are clean and all other maintenance is up to par. As long as you don't have other issues with the truck such as increasing oil levels, rough idle or hard starting etc. , I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those symptoms are signs of much worse problems.

Thanks Wertles. Everything is up to par no troubles with anything just the soot . and I only run Diesel in it . Thanks for the reply

35" BFG's? If so there's several MPG going down the drain! The guy I bought my truck from had large tires (LT315-70R17) on it. Couldn't make a sharp turn without rubbing them out. Made it look a little nicer and gave it a smoother ride though.

He also had the original set of OEM tires and wheels. I would get 450 miles per tank with those with the big ones on at best. Probably 15-16 MPG or so. I didn't leave 'em on long. Changed back to OEM's and got 540 miles using 27 gallons of fuel first time out(20 mpg). Running Amalgamated TDR-S fuel treatment also on every tank to help keep things right. The lie-o meter says I'm getting 21. 5, but hand calculations show about 19-20. A bit better on the highway. I take it easy on the go pedal for the most part.

Put the CAT back on the problem is lessened quite a bit.



The CAT is not actually a CAT like a gasser, more of a particulate trap and burner than anything else. The particulates you are calling suet (assume you mean soot) would normally be trapped and burned off by it.



The reson for the excessive soot is the emissions design of the fueling and cam profile. Aside fom some major work changing the cam and redoing thew timing there is not much you can do.



Frankly, uless you constantly going over 500 hp removing the CAT gains you pretty much nothing but a lot of black on the truck. An exhaust pipe tip to extend it out a bit or a turn down will keep most of it off the truck but your trailer may get dirtier.
