MY MUFLER AND TAILPIPE HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST. DODGE WANTS $300 FOR PARTS NAPA IS ABOUT HALF AS MUCH. ANY OPPINIONS OR IDEAS ON THE PREFERED FIX WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THE TRUCK IS A 96 EXTENDED 4X4.

ask dodge for the wholesale price. i got mine for about the same price that you were quoted at napa. or just get the napa parts,,just as good.

Many of the Performance shops the have links here, most likely have piles of prefectly fine stock exhast system in their junk pile or garbage.

Many, many members have upgrade their exhaust (their stock was in great shape).

I would think you would be able to find a member or performace shop within a couple hundred miles that you could drive to or have them send the parts you need for shipping only. There was a shop in Kokomo, IL that had a pile of mufflers, pipes and CAT behind their building.

Seems like a crime to have to pay for factory stock exhuast components.

Gave both my great condition removed exhaust pipe systems away for free to a fellow who wanted to make duals out of them. UPS shipping from WA to Denver was $130 just for both the post muffler pipes, no muffler included. I'm sure you could pick up a similar deal here, maybe even close enough that no shipping is involved.

Even if you cant get a complete 4" for that. You can get a 4" catback for very close to that. Then later on get the down pipe, remove the cat, etc. Eventually end up with a complete 4". A little more expensive than doing it all at once, but works.

My experience, the 4" muffler and tail pipe does not sound much louder that sock, if your are worried about sound. Didnt help that much on EGT's. The sound and EGT improvement came when going Katless. That was very noticable. Still using the stock 3" downpipe.
