I have a 94 standard cab long bed that I want to put a 4 inch exhaust system on. I want a stainless steel system but I'm not sure whether I should get 409 or 403 stainless. Banks claims that they've had problems with 403 cracking and so they do not offer it. Has anyone experienced any problems with 403?? I'm considering a choice between Silverline MBRP and Banks. Can anybody offer me any suggestions... ???

Also, since I want to put a turbo back system on, I have heard that if I purchase a system for a 99 truck, I need only to replace the rear pipe hanger and it will fit. Does anyone have experience with this??

(Besides an AFE Stage 2 cold air intake, this is my only upgrade so far)

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Doug

I wanted a stainless system and searched just like you. My concern was some complained of a drone at about 1800-2200 rpm. Also, there are several systems out there that do offer 4 in downpipe with their 4 in systems (watchout for some that give you a 3. 5 in downpipe... I believe Magnaflow was one on some of their systems). I feel you should get 4 in all the way.

I purchased the MBRP 4 in SS T409 turbo-back system and was very happy with the fit and performance. I searched around like you and decided on MBRP and am very happy. The whole system looks like a piece of chrome . It bolted up with no problem to the stock hangers. I got the T305 SS 5 inch double wall tip and it really looks great and keeps the soot off my dually fenders. Pricey at $60 but worth it IMHO.

I would recommend using band clamps instead of the U-bolt type clamps that it came with, if you ever want to remove the pipes. The clamps can crimp the pipes making it impossible to remove easily or at all. I got my 3 band clamps at NAPA T305 SS for $10 apiece.

I have since removed loosened the tailpipe to re-adjust it and it was easy to move and re-fit.

You can get the 4 inch SS T409 MBRP system for $440 + free shipping at www.xtremediseel.com. When I got mine in Dec it was cheapest since ground shipping was free.

Here's a link to their MBRP exhaust:

Or Try Piers Diesel and check their price on MBRP at this link:

Oh... call them because they usually give better pricing then whats posted and tell them your from TDR.

Your right about the rear hanger. It's necessary on pre 98. 5 Dodges. You can get one from Dodge (that will fit 98. 5 and up) or where I got mine at Diesel Performance Parts for about $28. I don't know what the bracket cost from Dodge. I had to drill two holes in the frame side rail to hang them. It was a real pita to locate and drill the holes but it looks great. Here's a link for the bracket from Diesel Performance Parts:

I got my magnaflow system from Pinnacle Exhaust and it was 4" all the way. There was a quick taper at the turbo then 4". I go the aluminized steel and have no problems. My son wrecked my truck and the exhaust pipe got bent where the down pipe and the next section joined. I called Pinnacle, explained the problem, they sent me both sections I needed at a VERY reasonable price.

I also got my stainless steel 4" band clamps at a local truck parts dealer at about $7 each.

I got the banks system a couple of years ago. Been happy with the system. Easy install, the reason I went with banks was the 4 inch elbow off the back of the turbo. True 4 inch with no taper to go from stock to 4 inch. On the pricey side, but I know what I wanted and I had to pay for it.

Do you mean Banks provided a different elbow that was 4 inch on the end that mounts to the 4 inch downpipe? The stock elbow is 3 inches I believe where it mounts to the downpipe. My MBRP downpipe has an adapter section welded on the end of about 2-3 inches to neckdown fom the 4 inch downpipe to the 3 inch stock elbow.

Be better to have a true 4 inch downpipe IMHO so if the turbo is changed to an HX40 it will bolt up without replacing the downpipe. At least thats my understanding... . someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Geez..... How many times did I type the word "inch" in this reply  ? Kinda redundant don't you think :-laf ?

yes, you can get from banks a 4 inch elbow. The 3" elbow unbolts with 6 bolts-? off the back of the turbo and the 4" plate/elbow bolts in. My reason was, the bomb bug I can't seem to shake. :-laf Yes, turbo came to mind. The down pipe is a true 4" and bolts up to the elbow with 2 bolts (bell mouth pipe with slip flange) better to explain what it is.

I know about the bomb bug... . don't fight it just do the bombs and get it out of your system :-laf . I'm having a BOMBITIS attack myself , but also a lack of money:{ . I got the MBRP system before I realized that if I change turbo's I may need a whole new true 4 Inch downpipe or have mine modified. I wish I knew about a true 4 inch and then I would be ready for the... . NEW TURBO... YEAH!... . BRING IT ON! Oo. :D ... ... Sorry for SHOUTING, I got carried away there.

I never seen a true 4 inch when i was searching, but it is a good idea. Now I hate to buy a new stainless 4 inch downpipe and don't know where I could get mine modified..... Hmmmmmm. But I will when the Turbo Bomb hits me ;) .

Thanks everyone for all of your help. I called Banks just today to find out more info on there exhaust system. I like the idea of the power elbow, but it's not cheap, $300  The rest of it I found for $525 so now I'm looking at over $800 and it's still only 409 ss not 304! I'm not sure how important that is as Banks does offer a life time warranty on it. Still, I guess I would prefer 304 as I live in the rust belt and plan to keep the truck for a long time and don't want to go through this again,( I hate exhaust work!) By the end of this year I hope to have a lift in my shop so maybe I won't mind it so much then :) Either way I have to make a decsion soon, my stock system is half gone and I welded up another hanger last night. I also called Rip, but he hasn't got back to me yet. Once again THANK YOU, Doug

Hogg

Take a look at HOGG. I haven't heard much about HOGG exhaust on here, but I can vouch for them. It's a good system, and includes a 4" down pipe. T-304 stainless and a nice muffler. Not too loud in the cab, less drone than stock, but loud out the back. http://www.hogperformance.com/

Not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer.

Any feedback on the Silverline 4" exhaust system? My tailpipe rusted off a few days ago and I am now in need of a new system. Seems like you can't beat the price for a 304 SS system.

I just bought a Silverline 4" "304" Stainless Steel Exhaust system for my truck... . I love it, shines like a mirror... ... and sounds great, and was the easiest thing I had ever installed no cutting or welding, the only thing I had to cut was the old one off my tk. it is all 4", down pipe and all with a 5" tip... . I paid $610. 00 shipping and all from City Muffler and performance... . out of Oklahoma... ... has a life time warranty... ... need any more info... feel free to e-mail me... .
