Has anybody fitted a Gibson exhaust system (stainless) to their Ist gen? I have just acquired '92 Club cab 4x2 long bed D250. If you have, what was quality like, did it fit easily, any improvement in economy, performance, sound, etc. . ? Has anybody fitted any other make or would recommend another? Needs to ship to UK. Got a Magnaflow on my 2003 but they don't seem to make for the '92.

Also for '92 any info on rebuilding front suspension and steering joints, etc. Best place to get parts that will ship to UK and any modifications to standard that are adviseable whilst doing this rebuild on 1st gen. Any help would be appreciated.

Have had '03 for 5 yrs and love it but just getting to know the '92. There are very few of them over here and it's a work in progress so hope to hear from lots of you. Thanks in advance for your time. Uk is a lonely place when your hobby is diesel Rams.

Ive never seen a gibson on a 1st gen. But I think for most uses a stockish exhaust will flow decently enough with a good muffler to negate the need for larger tubing.

As far as front end... not much to really wear out. Check the wheel bearings, king pins and tie rod ends. Crossover steering makes them FAR nicer to drive if that is what you are going for.

Thanks very much for your reply. Was going for stainless steel gibson system because both our trucks stand outside and in England it is cold and damp and rock salt on the roads so rots metal and we are near the coast. Was hoping to eliminate corrosion by fitting stainless. Both 1st & 3rd gen we have are 2x4 and don't understand what you mean by crossover steering on 1st gen. Where can I look to check this. Thanks again, Brian.

Cross over steering is for the 4x4's. Since you have a 2x4 it doesn't apply.

Basically, wheel bearings, tie rods, and ball joints are the wear pieces in the front end.

The rubber pieces under the the lower control arm strut rot out and they clank and let the lower control arm move. Bushings in the control arms will rot and cause movement also.

Check your lower control arms for cracking and rust. If they are good now treat them with a rust inhibitor cuz they don't make them anymore.

... as for getting parts, try the dealers or someone like AM-Autoparts... .

These guys are in North Carolina, and I'd wager they'd work with you to get you whatever you need. Dealer parts are usually higher, as you probably know. Hickory Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mopar, Cummins Parts & Accessories | Statesville - Wilksboro - Gastonia | Steve White Motor Parts | North Carolina

These guys are kinda limited on what they have, but have good prices and I think will ship to you. AM Autoparts - After Market Auto Parts - Headlights, Mirrors, and More

If you have a real problem, let me know. I can try to work with you. I have a shop and sell quite a few parts... .

Thanks very much for replies. I am truck driver in UK at home at moment recovering from coronary artery bypass operation. So 1st gen is my therapy but will probably be slow going. Still sorting out a list of exactly what I need, but if I have any problems might take up your kind offer. Thanks again, Brian.

Ewwwww.Well, get better. These old trucks are good therapy... . at least to me. Better than banging my head against a wall!!

Ohhh, so that's why it's not finished yet... . ;) Trying to remodel the shop are we?

As for the SS exhaust, if you check out Summit Racing, they have some, and should ship to the UK... ... . not saying they'd be cheap to ship, but you got the Dodge over there somehow... . :D

Gibson seems to be the only 2wd exhaust available in SS from Summit... . might compare pricing... . happy hunting!! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GIB-616576/

Thanks very much to you both will look at all your links. Just as matter of interest to BSchwarzli we also have 1938 McLaughlin Buick built Oshawa for UK from new so is RHD. Have owned 14 yrs along with a British '51 Ford V8 Pilot which is the old 1936 body used up over here from '47 to '51 until new models were developed after WW2. Sometime when we figure out how will try and upload some pics of the trucks and the Buick if anyone interested to see them.

Those sound fantastic!

Uploading is pretty easy, but if you really want easy upload to photobucket. Then just copy the link here. If you need more ionfo than that say so and I can walk you through it... .

Any of you guys like Diamond Eye? I bought a 4in tbe off of them a while back for about $360. I got the aluminized exhaust. It seems to stand up to the salt pretty well and the fit was great.

That's what I fitted on my '93. It went on pretty well, sits well, and I haven't had any problems, so far. Certainly helped the EGTs on long pulls... .
