I have decided to for a 4" exhaust system. Which system should I go with?

Thanks. Brian.

being in canada i think you best option is BD performance , you don't have to deal with exchange rate or customs crossing the border ... either that or drive south of the border , get a new system and don't tell when you cross back ...

Brian, I'm curious whay you want to upgrade your exhaust. From your signature block, it doesn't appear that you've uprated your engine. Your fueliing and EGT should be low. If it's just for appearance a tip is much cheaper.

Brian,
I recently installed the BD 4" cat back system on my stock '95 2500 and so far am very pleased with it. My old exhaust rusted off at one of the clamps, so I figured I might as well get the 4" so I'll be ready for my next upgrades.
It was easy to install(as long as you've got a torch to remove the old rusty stuff!), but you won't be able to use your spare tire carrier (at least not on my '95) because of that big ol' pipe. It's just a tad louder and deeper toned than OEM, and you can hear the turbo whine at the outlet, sounds cool!

Enjoy that big, smelly, rattling, Powerstroke stompin' Cummins!

Hasn't anybody thought of trying the banks 4" exhaust system. It's mandrel bent stainless steel. With the stainless Dynaflow muffler it's not any louder than stock muffler.

I removed the Banks 3. 5" diameter, cat. back exhaust system originally designed for the 12v application to install the Banks Stinger, 4" diameter, mandrel bent, stainless steel (turbo to tailpipe) exhaust system. This is a very high quality system!

Dieselx I would however, have to differ with you on the noise issue. . it IS louder (not objectionable to me. . but louder) than OE or the previously described (12v) Banks exhaust system. The stainless steel DynaFlow muffler is of straight through design hence, more noise.

John,
Maybe your's is louder because of the bigger injectors, bigger turbo housing and the Scotty Air System.
Mine's no louder than stock, if you don't put your foot in it. I have yet to add the 275 hp. injectors. I plan to in the future.
Did you get any increase/decrease in fuel milage?

Brian:
Since I have only installed one other exhaust system on my truck, I can't tell you which one is the best, however; I can tell you that I am Very Happy with the kit from Jannetty Racing (203) 753-RACE. Installation was simple - and took about 3 hours to complete. My truck is definately "snappier" now, and there has been a 150 degree reduction in my EGTs (pre-turbo)during "normal" driving. I have yet to pull anything substantial since the installation, but I'm sure there will be a like reduction. There's a good review of the system in the product review section. The people at Jannetty have been great. Hope this helps with your decision.

Thank you all for the response to my question on which exhaust system to go with. I think I will go with Mopar-Muscles advice and go for the B. D. system. This is the start of my cautious "BOMBING"proccess.

Thanks again Brian.

DieselX, first of all I do not have a larger than OE turbine housing. I, like Ted Jannetty, am a firm believer in the OE 12cm2 turbine housing (at least for most "normal" upgrade applications). I installed the "Scotty Air System" after the installation of the Banks 4" diameter exhaust. As you are not making the power I was with my 275 hp. injectors, there may be some small difference in sound pressure as experienced in the cab of your Ram. I have close personal knowledge of at least half a dozen different Rams equipped with the new Banks 4" diameter, stainless steel exhaust system, with all owners of said systems reporting back that they found the exhaust somewhat too loud under full throttle operation. There is a resonance in the cab from about 1,950-2,100 rpm. Fitz reported this on this BB just after the installation of his exhaust system (the first Banks 24v Stinger Plus kit sold to the public!). I knew this prior to the purchase of my system, as it is not very loud unless you "stand on it"... even then it is not that bothersome to me. I will tell you this; the Banks (12v) 3. 5" diameter, chambered Dynaflow muffler and tailpipe I had on my Ram previous to the addition of my present system was "purchased" by The PowerShop in my home town of Enumclaw, WA. for a gentleman who had them add this muffler and tailpipe as a replacement for his 4" diameter stainless steel components. It was a difficult installation as the chambered muffler is of an offset outlet (or inlet) configuration whereas the 4" stainless steel Dynaflow muffler is of the straight through variety hence, centered inlet/outlet. The end result was two very happy customers; the gentleman with the 24v/12v Banks hybrid exhaust system (who purchased these components at a savings over new) and me, for the "resale" of my "old" exhaust system. This service was provided courtesy of The PowerShop. Is that customer service or what? #ad

OBTW DieselX, I did experience more turbo whine with a marked increase in noise level with my exhaust brake (when engaged) after the addition of the "Scotty Air System". The exhaust noise level remained the same however.

hey john , here's a little heads up , but i assume that since you say you'll squezze it in that you know that the '00 sport uses a different shaped front bumper ? i to thought of doing something similar till i saw how much i'd have needed to replace . . but since you have a sport it won't be that bad , also john i was just on the phone with bill k. and heard about the pump and something else on the horizon for us auto impaired BOMBers, going to get some prices on the stuff in the morning ... sorry for going off topic .

brian , good choice , i think you'll be pleased , only thing i don't like about the BD come to think of it is the tip they supply , i think that a slash cut tip would be a better option , at least to me ... .

Mopar-Muscle, the price I was quoted for the BD modified front pump was $195.

As for the '99/'00/'01 Sport grille, it would be no different for me to mount it to my '98. 5 Sport than any regular SLT. I looked this over very carefully prior to ordering the '00 Sport grille. As I have extensive experience with a die grinder, I think I can make this fit with the OE '98. 5 bumper. Then I can have the best of both worlds... the '98. 5 bumper assembly and the '00 grille and headlight system (I don't care for the bulky looking '99+ Sport bumper assembly). #ad

For all of you planning on attending May Madness, and are interested in a 4" exhaust system, here's a hot/cool tip. Mr. Z's Muffler, 1510 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV. 775-359-8788 will INSTALL a complete 4", mandrel bent, aluminized steel exhaust system for $575. 00+tax in about 1. 5hrs. It includes an Allied heavy duty muffler(4" straight-thru, same one used by Banks & Gibson systems)and a chrome turn-down tip(angled/cofigured to your preference). If you elect to go the straight-pipe BOMB method... deduct about $80. 00 for the muffler. Jerry Krupp is the owner and his shop is the most reputable high performance exhaust outfit in the Reno/Sparks area, and they warranty their work 100%. Being a reputable establishment Jerry can't install the "CAT Test-Pipe", DC#52019170AB, list $47. 17, but if you tell Jerry ahead of time he can make sure your test-pipe install goes easier. #ad
I went the full straight-pipe route, and all the claims you've read earlier are true! #ad
... quiker spool-up, lower EGT's(100-150degrees for me), and more noise(especially @ 1900-2100rpm's, moderate to full throttle) #ad
/ #ad
. I thought I might have to go back and add the muffler back into the system but after a few days the turbo whine and resonation grew on me #ad
... Hell it just flat out turns heads!!! Reserve your shop time with Jerry ASAP... as some have already done so for the week of May Madness. BOMB-ON #ad
