I was talking with a tech at the dealer that told me that it's best to run the cummins EGT between 600 and 800 degrees pre turbo and to get out of it ASAP if its over 800 but is capable of 1200 degrees in short bursts without problems. I have a heck of a time keeping it under 800 degrees while driving in the mountains empty. I know it will go way up with the trailer in tow. I believe these motors were made to work hard. I just don't see worrying about the temps so long as they don't go over 1200 degrees.

He must not drive one or if he does his gauge is Poohy. I baby my truck and 1000-1100 is pretty common in the hills while passing cars. IMO 600-800 is a good number to focus on for best fuel economy.

There are a lot of stock trucks that will hit 1350+ towing. I wouldn't think Dodge would let it get that hot if it where a problem. I'll set me backdown on my Attitude at 1350 and it's stayed there for a while going up some steep grades. When I'm towing my temps are over 800 almost all of the time. Unless I'm going down hill or the wind is at my back on a flat road.

I live down here in the Ozark mountains. Everywhere is uphill. I consistently see 900 cruising empty pulling hills. I just went to Talladega Alabama, 1700 miles round trip, on the interstate cruising, pulling 14K, it stayed at 900 all the time and on a pull it would go to 1300 easily. On a steep grade it hit 1450 and stayed there until it leveled off. Mine is mounted pre-turbo. Edge is set on 1 when towing.
