just wandering gonna put in a set of 60 pounders for ex brk. should intakes be done too just to keep everything in balance? and if so are they the same springs?---thanks

I replaced both. Just might get 4GSK, but it was $70. 00 more for the other 6 springs and only adds a few mins per cylinder. Like you, I thought it would keep things in balance, seamed silly to increase exhaust spings to 60lbs and leave intake at 35.

I finished mine this last weekend. I installed a Pack brake and 60# springs. THANKS to the Pack brake folks everything went smooth. I don't believe it'd gone so good without their help. The guys there, namely Bill Lang, and Jim were right on top of every question and problem I had. They sold me and only advocated that I replace the exh springs. Because I tow heavy the exh. brake could float the exhaust valves and cause pistion/valve damage. There's something like a 1/4" clearance between the two. Ask me how I know. Because that was part of the help Bill gave me in knowing when to knock the spring retainers loose.

The springs are only $8. 50 ea. from a Cummins dealer. Doing the intakes only takes a short time longer, while you have the tools out. The 4,000 springs kit adds alot of driveability to your truck. You don't have to go to 4,000 on shifts to see a real difference in driveablity in the truck. I wouldn't tow without the 4K kit.

Bruce, tell me more about this kit you're talking about. I just put the 60#'rs in. Nothing was said about the intakes. I tow heavy a good protion of the time. I'm guessing about 16K with a big camper, steel car trailer and '66 Bronco. Again tell me more

The 4,000 rpm governor spring kit allows you to keep the turbo spooled and is especialy good while towing. You will need to install the 60# valve springs in both intakes and exhausts. I have had the 4K springs in when I first started on the BOMBING and am very happy.

I don't understand, I didn't think the 12 valvers could go to 4K rpms. I'm never had mine over 2500. I also read on another posting that the bottom end suffers when changing to the 4gsk. Is that correct? Where would a guy get this gsk?

Thanks for the info.

12 valvers can go aways beyond 4000rpms. The 4k gsk is probably the best mod I have done yet. The governor springs were easy to do, the valve springs were a pain put definately doable.
