i know the exhaust thing has been on here over and over... i haven't found the answer, i need, though. stock muffler is history. straight piped isn't for me. currently i have reinstalled the resonator. i need a low restriction(straight thru) exhaust system which will not increase the volume of the exhaust (decibels?). is that possible? nice tone would be a plus. has any one tried two mufflers end to end to cut down on the volume of the exhaust. two straight thru 5" mufflers end to end should do away with restriction, but what would it sound like?

exhaust

i may have solved it myself today, at least temporarily. put on a truck muffler about 4' long but straight thru. i retained the resonator and it sounds real good. i will replace the down pipe with a 4" pipe, and the ytail pipe so i have 4' all the way. the four foot muffler did require some planning to get in there. tone is deeper, but not louder than stock, and i know with a 4" muffler i can see thru, it cut down on the back pressure. :) :D

i guess this is my private thread. pretty narcissistic:rolleyes: however... ... ... if anyone else besides ramboy, who has been e-mailing me privately would like astraight thru muffler which won't increase the volume of theexhaust note, let me suggest a cou;le of sources. i used a Goerlich truck muffler. 4" i/o and straight thru. tone is nice and volume comparable to the oem. usa truck parts also markets truck mufflers with a very nice price.

Just so you don't feel alone here . . . :p

I have been thinking about using 2 mufflers - I have a 4" system with a Magnaflow straight-thru muffler - nice tone, but too loud above 2000rpm's. I'm thinking about adding another of the same muffler.

Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

it's me again, edith!

sorry about the typos in the last post--didn't edit.

forgot to add that 4" downpipes and tail pipes are available from several sources. doug at smokin diesel gave me very good prices on the pipes to complete the 4" system... ... .

txram:

you might try the two sources above, at least usa truck parts has some shorter (than 4 feet) mufflers that might be a suitable addition to your system, without adding restriction. don't know if goerlich's have a similar muffler, but would expect them to. i had planned two mufflers on mine end to end, but the big mother sounds so good, i won't have to, unless the volume increases when i remove the resonator to complete the 4" system.

redneckdr,

Keep us posted on what happens when you remove your resonator. I would really be interested in knowing if you pick up the dreaded drone above 2K rpm.

resonator

usa truck parts have a resonator, 4" i/o, 10" long for $33. 54. if the dreaded drone returns, i'll try adding that to the system. ;)

My 99 3500 4x4 had the drone w/ 3" stock pipe w/ resonator and no muffler above 2000 rpm, I removed resonator running 3" strights and drone was un bearable at 2200 pulling a load. Went with a complete 4" Stainless exhaust system from Banks, My running mate, A 96 Cab & Chassis 12v Cummins has the Jardine with the short muffler and the drone and we wanted to see if Banks claims of no drone were true. Well I don't have the drone but kit came w/ a 3 foot stright thru 4 inch Dyna Max or Dyna Flow Muffler I cant remember which. Any way we put a walker stright thru muffler on his truck that we picked up at a truck Parts & repair shop, I dont remember the part # but it about 3' long also and no more drone,But that was then and this is now and were both running stright pipes because the mufflers are just to quite.
