Exhaust?

How much HP can a stock muffler on an '04 take? Also, will the EGT's get to high when serious power is added? I have a co-worker who just bought a used '04 and is going to start bombing his truck. The first being the exhaust. He's not sure if he wants to go after market because he likes the quietness. Can you help me out with this one. Thanks in advance.

If your friends truck is an 04. 5 or later I'd sure like to buy his curved down pipe from the turbo ( they are only about 3 feet long so it would ship well). . let me know. . need 4"in 4" out ... . thanks

Downpipe

Are you looking for the stock downpipe? I probably have a couple over in the scrap pile from putting on 5" system on customers trucks unless they were put on with the truck to scrape yard last night. Let me know what you need I will check.

i would say get him an adjustable box let him play with it. if hes comfortable cruising on low settings then it should be fine. if hes towing or wants to make big power sacrafices must be made. some seem happy with the roktek muffy too.

I put a 51" Donaldson on mine. It's pretty quiet with no drone. You can do a search and get a wheelbarrow full of opinions on mufflers.

Only real way to know with his loads and how he drives is a set of gauges to see when the EGT's get out of control. It's an easy fix though and pretty cheap too. He can get into an AFE aluminized system for less than you might guess.

Get a good strait through muffler and put it on the factory system. If it is a 03-early 04 try to find a downpipe off of a newer truck. Plenty of them around.

I don't know why that wouldn't be enough. That is basically a full 4" exhaust.

I am not sure on the factory muffler, they don't stay around long.
