I'm looking for some exhaust for my 97 4x4. I want to get some pipes that really make that big truck sound. Any help would be great.

Stan's Headers

Good place to deal with right there in Washington state with you...

Check out Stan's Headers. Excellent quality, low prices, great customer service. I've bought two downpipes from them, in the past, for $150 apiece, for two different applications. I'm sure they can sell you an entire system.

www.stans-headers.com

Jerry Jardine in Wyoming, owner of Pinnacle Performance Exhaust, also sells good 4" systems, complete with a muffler, for an excellent price.

I have mine straight-piped, no muffler. (quite a few of us do) I doubt the ones with mufflers give it a "big-rig" sound. Some systems might... but can you live with how loud it's going to be? Some people can't. I see you have a 97, that means it probably has a cat on it. If you have a muffler shop(few can do 4" systems) do the work, they will probably refuse to cut off the cat. You'll have to take it in there, minus the cat.

options are multiple. i didn't like my 01. 5 24v straight piped, altho it is the easiest and least expensive. you can have a piece of pipe made, or buy a "test pipe" to replace the cat and muffler for about $40 at most muffler shops. i have a "big truck muffler" in a 4" system turbo to tail. you may want to try it straight piped first... ... . exercise other options if not happy.

by the way, here in st. louis, i had no problem with straight piping the whole thing, (no cat, resonator, or muffler),

they didn't say a thing, also correct me if i am wrong, but i did not see any cat converter on my 99 24v, only muffler and resonator...

mwillie, Jannetty Racing 4 inch sounds pretty cool, you get a variety of sounds depending on the suroundings which echo and amplify the sound, from a pretty good big rig impersonation around town and between buildings, but going through a tunnel flooring it sounds like some kind of freakin monster roaring! I love it! If you can try getting sound samples of different systems and see which style you like. Jannetty is also offering a dual 4 inch system now but I haven't heard much about sound yet as it's still pretty new. Hope this helps.

Jardine

I have the Jardine system on my pick-up and think it sounds the best between big truck and muffled. If I were to do it again, I would try a Borla straight thru racing muffler... . that might be sweet :D

The only way to get the true "big rig" sound is a set of stacks! The sound is just awesome!!! I put my whole system together for a little over $500, so it is comparable to most aftermarket 4" systems.

I know I have seen it here but can't remember or find it with a search... .

Does Jardine/Pinnacle have a website. The one in the links area does not work. Thanks... ... .

Briar is right, go see Stan. I bought all my parts from him to build my exhaust. He has complete systems too. . In fact I mentioned the TDR to Stan about a year or so ago. He hadn't heard of it. A few weeks later his banner ad popped up here, been here ever since. Guess enough people are using his stuff.

With a 5" straight thru muffler, if I hold the rpms down mine will sound just like a real truck. If I rev the urine out of it, it sounds like Piers' burn out video. :D I'm happy!

Jardine's number is 800-934-3569

If you end up talking to Jerry Jardine he will talk to you for a while. A great guy who knows his exhaust.

Disclaimer: not affliated with Jardine. Just a happy customer.

That system that Ted Jannetty is offering is a ATS turbo system. Dual 4 inch exhaust split at the muffler. All stainless steel from downpipe to tip. I talked to Ted about it and he likes it. It has a little more drone than his system but the real neat thing is hearing that exhaust on the drivers side (especially on the highway by those jersey barriers ;) ) when he punches it.

It looks real nice but I would rather opt for his system. His costs half as much as the ATS turbo system does.

JMHO

I have a Diesel Dynamics 4" system my truck sounds great, The Power Stroke guys here are GREEN with envy, there all wanting to install 4" exhaust but I dont think it will sound like the mighty CUMMINS:D :D :D

I have the Jardine 4in,can't beat the price 425. 00 w tip.

Its only loud when you romp on it. or at 70 it gets a little loud pulling hills.
