I believe it is to kill the resonance that you will hear when you loose it for a piece of pipe. some have left it in to kill the drone, but it is notorious for clogging up on even stock trucks. so it is your choice to leave it or loose it.

Are you sure the resonators actually clog up ? I have seen lots of catalytic convertors,on the 12 Valves clog,but never a resonator. Could you have them mixed up ?
