for those wanting to modify the exhaust without significantly increasing the volume of the sound... ... my system is now on, and i love it. nice deep sound--lot's of turbo sound at the tailpipe. used a 4" Goerlch's straight thru truck muffler, a 4" downpipe, and a 4" tailpipe. a Megs stainless steel "Slick Tip" finished it off. :D

rick:

i bought the parts separately, from different sources. i think i paid too much for the muffler. what i believe to be a similar muffler is available from www.usatruckpartsonline.com,forless...lich's has a website, [url]www.goerlichs.com, but no prices or order ability that i can find. doug conrad at www.smokindiesel.com, sent me the downpipe and tailpipe. he had a leftover downpipe there, and gave me the price of $99 for it, but i think he told me about $120 for one normally. the tailpipe, he sold me for $115. the front hanger was $8 from him. i had to add about 4 1/2 feet of 4" pipe, at about $4/ft. hangers i made in the shop to hook to the brackets on the frame. i used 5 stainless steel strap clamps for the joints @$8 ea. the tip from genos garage was $36. should be able to make for $300 and some change.

Did it make a difference? I would like the 4" so that the truck will breathe better that she does with the straight 3". I heard somewhere that our engines produce about 1000 cfm of exhaust and after Dodge done their thing, the stock exhaust cuts it down to about 200 cfm! Some chart I seen showed that a 4" would produce 50-55 lbs of torque and 18-20 hp.

Thanks for the information. .

This looks to be what I've been looking for. It will probably be next year before I can do my exhaust - I want to get some gauges first. ;)

Iwas also wondering if it made any noticable difference????

RHarvey,

I doubt you'll see that kind of increase in hp or torque. If your wanting to stay with a straight exhaust I can throw you a few tips. No downpipe needed unless your running an HX-40. I custom built my 5" exhaust at a total cost of $160. But then I also didn't have an added muffler cost:D

i don't have any gauges (yet), so can't address the egt issue. i'm not sure it added any power, but it sure does accelerate better. my opinion is that it sounds so good that i tend to be WOT more.

no "dreaded drone", although above 2krpm it is quite audible. turbo sound out of the tailpipe is great. straight piped just wasn't for me. the sound volume of this system is comparable to the oem, but with a much deeper tone. i had trouble convincing a friend of mine that the engine is still bone stock. he says it sounds significantly BOMBed. i love it!! :D :D
