I had my 16cm exhuast housing laying around and I had a buddy that wanted to try it on his 93. Well he put it on there and after about 10 min on a test drive it wiped out the turbo. I wasn't there the whole time he was putting it on, but he said the turbo had a little bit of slop before the swap. And when we pulled it back off it had ALOT of slop. It also bent the fins of the exhaust turbine wheel pretty bad. It didn't really screw the housing up, but it trashed the rest of the turbo.

Was I wrong in thinking that the 16cm housing would fit his truck?

And well a newer turbo (94 and up) fit on his truck?

TIA

He probably messed things up while performing the swap.

Yes, a newer trucks turbo will fit. There are many different turbo/turbo configurations that will fit. You or he will have to determine what you want the end result to be, then choose the proper turbo.

Gotta be careful when changing housings, esp if it is your first time. And lots of doses of PB Blaster. I havent found anything else that will cut through rusted/ heat "treated" on there like that stuff does. Good excuse to upgrade to a PDR HX35, hybrid HX35/40, etc, etc. Heck, if you're creative enough, you can come up with a way for the HX35 to work on a nonIC truck.

If that housing is messed up, I will take it off your hands if you want? For that matter, anybody out there who wants to get rid of a 16cm housing, I am your man.

Alright. It's late and I just got back from a call. If that housing isn't messed up, I will take it off your hands if you don't want it.

I talked to my firend that did the swap today. He rebuilt the turbo with a new bearing kit over the weekend, but it still has problems. It now makes a growling sound once it spools up.
