Alaska Cude Oil Spill of the Week

I'd like to get an EZPass that I can use when pulling a 1 or 2 axle trailer. I've been told that I can just get the regular individual account pass and the additional trailer axles will be detected, but I can't get any official confirmation of this. I assume there must be some of you guys doing this?

EZPASS

I know more about this than I care to, lived on Staten Island for 3 yrs. I pull a 2 axle boat trailer.

You can have up to 4 tags under the same account. I have one for each vehicle and a third for the two axle addditional rating. The idiots that manage this system have no clue and are hard to deal with. Took me six months to get set up this way.

The only tolls that are supposed to be able to sense axles are the Port Authority of NY/NJ crossings (Any crossing between NY/NJ in the metro NY area). No others 'supposedly' have that ability.

Other things of interest are that a CTD is too heavy to have car tags, but they don't know/care and will give you one anyways unless you are a dually (and then they might if they don't know). Additionally, if your trailer is less than 1500 pounds your regular EZPASS will work.

They coded my third EZPASS incorrectly and charged me the wrong (car) rate for the trailer for over a year. Oh well.

As long as it is not too obvious, not sure they care. A big fifth wheel or something might draw attention over time.

The other problem with EZPASS is that it is not consistent rulewise between different places. Mass Pike may have one rule for trailers, GSP another, NJTPK another. The PA Turnpike does not allow EZPASS for trailers at all.

Whew!! Even with the hassles it is worth it. Go to the website and look around.
