New Diesel Catalytic Converter!

I'm not driving the truck on weekends

What a Saga ...

I think that guy needs a few boxes of tissues.

What part of "you play, you pay" does he not understand.

"I, I , I know I have a juice box, but I didn't use it when it the truck broke down ... honest. Boo Hoo Hoo Hoo".

This whiner should just cough up the $$$ for a new engine, sell the thing and buy a used Freightliner/KW/Pete/International set up for pulling a large horse trailer. Then he won't have to worry about modifications.

Man, listen to these people try to come up with every concievable excuse for why this this melted ... except the obvious!

This guy sounds like his skirt is too tight.

I think it would be harder for the owner to prove that the juice box had nothing to do with the engine failure. It would be nice if car companies would just cover everything no questions asked but who do you think pays for it? Ok guys modify away, we now cover any and all warranty claims regardless of aftermarket modifications... ..... oh by the way our $35000. truck now costs $70000.

It was trying to tell him something when it started sounding like a Cummins... . he should have bought one!! I'd fix the Durasuzu 6. 6, sell it, and get a truck more like his buddies Dodge Ram Heavy Duty ;).

I have EGT and Boost - I believe, based on temps I recorded on my first long trip with stock exhaust (1000 degrees post turbo, pulling a 6 mile climb out of Camp Verde, AZ on my way to Phoenix), that for my type of service it is the #1 gauge. Boost is interesting, but EGT is essential and is mounted on the column and boost in the overhead.

Surprised noone has picked up on this yet... ... ... ... ... . 1000° post = whoknows° pre. Generally people add 300° and call it good..... however its been proven its not that simple. I didn't see where he mentions if he has recently tested his pyrometer.

Maybe we need to introduce our statement to them ... ... ... ... .

"I am my own warranty station"

Back in the days before the TDR, I bought the full-on Banks Power-Pack. In the instructions they tell you where to drill the downpipe for the pyrometer probe and tell you not to exceed 1000° on the guage. Normally I think Banks runs a little on the conservative side, but man that's hot:eek: I haven't got that hot even with my plate full forward and with 370's but I don't tow heavy either.

A couple of interesting points:

"I caught a friend at home (he hauls a lot of horses for us), an unhooked truck, and the time to come get us and take truck and trailer to the show grounds. Then he came back on Sunday and took us all home. He had a brand new Dodge Heavy Duty - they did a good job with that one, but the indignity. "

YUP - Dodge's main and happiest job in life is towing in busted Fords and Chevies...

"So, beware - in spite of protection allowed under Magnuson-Moss, if you have any mods on your truck, be prepared to defend yourself if you have a major failure. It really hinges on the dealer. "

And THERE is one area where not only the whiners in the GM crowd - but also a fair number of our OWN live in a fantasy world!

Read that thread, and you will see recommendation after recommendation that the guy "demands" that GM "proves" one thing or another...

GET REAL!

You as an owner/customer will NEVER be likely to successfully "demand" ANYTHING from GM or one of their dealers, Magnussen-Moss or not!

You wanna play hot-rodder with yer truck - have at it - but ALSO be aware YOU will most likely pay the bill if something breaks that is even REMOTELY associated with the failure.

You wanna put lotsa aftermarket power enhancers on yer truck - and THEN when something fails, start yanking it off to fool the dealer? And then YOU call THEM "stealers" and worse?

SHEESH!

Two phrases:

You play, YOU pay!

I am my own warranty station

It might not be popular or welcome - but it's the TRUTH!

He said his gauge reads 300* high.

On Mack trucks, the decal says to not exceed 1050*. This is post, factory location, 6" or so behind the turbo. I put a factory pyro gauge on the CH that I drive (replaced shot aftermarket gauge). Put the thermocouple in the stock location and won't let it go over 900-950*

I agree with Gary on this. (I think that's the second time I've said that. Hard to believe. ) Vaughn Merryman (our very own retired judge) made a post about the MM act and others like it last fall I believe. To summ up what he said, it ain't worth fighting even if you win. Too much time and money to sue and, if you win, to fight the appeals. They can keep you in court 'till pigs fly.
