Yup, bad analogy. If the eggbuyer had decided to eat one egg a day instead of two it would have made some sense.

If you follow the logical processes on oil the way to impact it to the benefit of the consumer would be to lower consumption. Buying smaller cars. More busses and transit systems.

Hey, I use my truck to pull a bass boat that weighs well under 3000 pounds. If a small (Tacoma/Frontier/S10/Ranger) diesel was available I would have bought it. My wife drives the jetta tdi but there are not near as many high mpg vehicles on the road. My boat can go 70 mph@4. 75mpg which is higher than the norm of 3 to 3. 5mpg at that speed.

There are options that would allow us to use less energy. There would be many many more if the public would buy them. I think its the consumers fault for the mess we're in. Mostly anyway... . I think the ethanol use will be shown to be a bonehead move also.

It's extremely funny to me about all of the complains about high gas prices, "BIG OIL" as some of you put it, all the time sitting in front of a computer that runs with software by ONE company that has monopolized the market. Has anybody heard of a guy named Bill Gates? Have you checked his profits? Are you going to boycott his software because of the amount of money he has made?

Everybody thinks of the big guys "EXXON", "CONOCO", etc. , what about the independent guys like me who have tried to make a living in the oil and gas business for the last 25 years? Are you blaming me for prices? Did you realize that the three countries we rely on for import oil and gas are in turmoil or war? It's a shame an American company makes money, we should send all our money overseas, is that it? Did you ever wonder where Bin Ladens' family made there money? But gas was cheaper then, the good old days!

Same' ol argument, just a different day.....

I don't "have" to buy or use a computer/software.

I don't "have" to buy that house.

I don't "have" to buy eggs.

I don't "have" to buy beer... :{

Driving less and consuming less fuel to aid in driving the cost of fuel down sounds great, but it doesn't solve the problem. Once the fuel prices start getting back to a reasonable range, then we will start using more as we can afford it... right back to square one.

As I can certainly reduce my consumption of fuel, I reach a point where I'm at my minimum and that's all I can do. I need to get to work and any options of moving closer to work to save money on fuel will be offset by a higher cost of housing... nothing to gain.

Yep, I have a big truck that gets 17 mpg and that is my choice... so I shouldn't complain because that would be funny to someone? Well, I van pool to work and some days I ride my Harley and some days I "have" to take my truck to take care of other business on the way home. And yes, I "have" to buy fuel at the going rate and that eats into my budget... otherwise whats the point? Become a unproductive member of society? Welfare, food stamps and bluecross?

BS on actual $$$$ to Big Oil - how do you spell RIP-OFF!

I was listening to an "Oil Exoert" today on the radio and he said that what is not being reported is that the Major Oil Companies ARE NOT PAYING $72/BBL or whatever the traded amount is that day--those are for the spot markets and anybody that has to buy outside of those sources like the independent down the street - and the actual CONTRACTED COST from OPEC for the 5 major oil companies in the US is averaging $25/BBL! Coupling that with the 40% domestic production from existing wells at an average cost of somewhere near $8/BBL IS WHERE THE PROFITS ARE COMING FROM! Let's be realistic - this trading MUST BE REGULATED! It is not currently being done!

There you go again, tossing in facts from some TV show who had the balls to tell the truth about oil company costs.

Don't you know that you just caused the board Big Oil backers to have a stroke over your post?

In one case, I had mattresses in the back of the truck, and had to "make time" with pregnant wife ... .....

Hmmmmm.

Anyhoo, back to your gegulary scheduled rant:

If only people would get as upset about the amount of income tax that the govt steals every year as we do about the price of fuel, things would change.

I dont need Chucky Schumer to do anything about the price of fuel, thats simply supply and demand, and when the price goes UP 50% and the comsumption goes UP 14%, then obviouslly the price is not too high for the market.

Until the consumption drops then the market price has not been reached.

I dont need the govt th set a 55 mph speed limit, driver will do that all by themselves if they gave a flip about saving fuel.

What I need my govt TO do, is build a stinking fence at the border!
