first start of the day is never a problem... key on, let the FASS prime to 20ish psi, key to start, and she lights right off. (fuel pressure is taken at the head of the CP3)

SOMETIMES when you kill the truck, you can come back out, key on to prime, key to start, and it'll light right off

SOMETIMES you do the same thing, and it'll sit there and crank... if you get off the key and then come back on, it'll light right off. Often I get frustrated and let it crank till it lights. maybe 3-5 seconds? and when it does, it puts out a nice little puff of smoke out the pipe

inlet pressure at the CP3 is always between 20-23psi (it's higher after you've run it and have a full hot charge on the battery), rail is capped with a plugged bolt. I usually see ~5-6kpsi at idle, but after some long hard runs it'll drop down around 3-4kpsi. (plugged the rail because of some funky surging issues and a bottomed out RP gauge at hot idle... both issues were resolved by capping the rail)

any ideas? it's embarassing hopping in the truck and having to sit there and run the starter so long... I know people are turning their heads to see who's trying to start their Powerstroke!

Forrest-

My 2003 305/555 sometimes does the same thing. I notice it more with the TST hooked up. I think it just takes a hair longer for the crank/cam sensor sensors synchronization to be read by the ECM since these signals first have to go through the TST programming.

Well, that's just my theory...

VERY interesting! I've got a TST on it. I'll bypass it and see how she does!! If that's all it is, I can live with it, because I like the extra power I get from the TST :D

I had similar problems with my 03 six months ago. Finally got bad enough that it would not start sometimes. Long story short, new injectors and crossover tubes. Truck never started as well , ran as quiet or as well since new. Was an expensive fix but worked for me.

got the same troubles on my 03, i have racked my brain over it. tried fca, cam and crank sensors, and injectors with no luck. as with yours, good fuel psi, no leaks or other obvious issues. i have a set of new connector tubes, but i really cant see that being an issue. ill be watching this threat for sure because im at a loss... ... ... ... .

The shop that did the work for me explained that the rail pressure has to reach a certain pressure before the ECM will fire the injectors. If there is enough pressure loss from a leak in the tubes or injectors you get a slow start or no start situation. They showed me the old tubes and at least two of them showed signs of erosion (leakage).
