I just joined the club - 2001 ext-cab. 6 speed(high out put), long bed sport. 57,000 miles good deal and a great truck,

HOWEVER the dealership is "offering" and extended service plan. Basically any SAE cert. shop, $100. 00 Co-pay per visit, $1,500 right now at time of sale, and it covers most all the drivetrain engine, trans, transfer, axels, fuel system, steering, electrical and air. Now I've always done my own work on all my trucks cars and tractors and plan to do so on the new Dodge. And I NEVER purchased and extended warranty in my life but this does sound like a good deal. The company name is "First Extended Servive Corporation" Does anyone have any experience or advice??

I would only use this for major electrical or air or what about out on the road away from my shop and tools???

Thank you

Save the $1500 you will be way ahead. Do a search on service contracts and you will see that the majority of members feel this way. Your engine is covered for 100K anyway and I bet you have either 100K or 70K on the drive train from DC.

Save the money if

you can and are willing to do the repairs your self. Most of the offers I was sent when my truck was new either don't cover diesels turboed engines or 4x4's or the price is twice as high for only one of the precious mentioned items then you add all of them together and it is way to much money.

Wish I hadn't...

I bought my '96 with only 28k miles and bought an $1100 'Silver' level contract. Far and away this was the biggest single waste of money in my life. I was intimidated by the diesel and unfamiliar with their operation. I will agree that the contract looks very good and is hard to resist. While mine was valid I attempted to make two claims. One was less than the deductable and the other was uncovered by the policy. These problems could have been solved in short-order by the incredibly informed and helpful folks that make up the TDR. You have to bear in mind that I never had a major engine or drivetrain problem while my contract was valid, but you probably won't either, these trucks are quite durable. I would advise against the extended contract.

BTW: You can get 42 years of TDR membership for the $1500 and I know that will be money well spent. Good luck.
