Who's the provider? Easy Ride or ????

You won't be dealing with your credit union when you need warranty coverage; you and the servicing shop/dealer will be dealing with the 3rd party warranty company. A dealer sold me the Easy Ride warranty with my previous 2011 Ram - I thought I was getting the FCA warranty, but that's another story. I used it twice, and both times they tried every trick in the book to weasel out of paying for what should have been covered. They even rejected coverage on a sensor/harness problem claiming that it was a "factory defect".

That's why I bought my 8/120 $100 deductible Max Care warranty on the 2016 from Chrysler Warranty Direct.

Rusty

Yeah. My dealer was a little vague about the warranty too. So i went online after having the truck for 3 months and bought from Chrysler Warrany Direct also. It can be googled as mopar vehicle protection (MVP). Some dealers will try to sell the warranty they get the most mark up on. And most 3rd party warranties sound good until you need them. I had a 3rd party warranty tell me they would fix a speedometer because it wasn't specifically listed. Even though it said it all electronics and mechanical parts are covered.

I called the Chrysler Warranty direct number, I believe they were $3k+ for a maxcare 8 yr 120k mi plan. Then contacted a dealer up North that i guess sells a lot of warranty plans (Mopar Direct), they had better pricing than Chrysler direct. I then contacted the dealer I purchased the truck from and told them I had gotten a couple of different prices, asked what could they do? Eventually got it down to I think $2200 or $2300. I don't recall exactly, but saved a lot of money by pricing from multiple sources and also ended up purchasing the service plan through the dealer I bought the truck from. I also did this 3-4 months after I bought the truck. I think they said if you buy while under 12000 miles, it doesn't cost you any more than if you bought the service plan with 0 miles on the truck. Long story short, don't get pressured into purchasing a warranty before you leave the dealer, you have some time to call around and get a better price.

Just to clarify, this is for my 2016, haven't updated my signature.

Yeah. I don't think I got the best price through Chrysler Warranty Direct.

Buy only Factory Warranty

Purchase the Mopar Warranty only. I was douped into buying what I was told was the Factory Warranty and it turns out it is a third party Dealer warranty. I would NEVER purchase a dealer warranty again. Everything is a "Wear" item. Lithia of Tri-Cities Service Department keeps telling me that when I bring things in for repair that the repair is not covered and on me. So what I have found is that when the seat post sheared off (bad metal) it was a wear item; when the rear NOX sensor started acting up, just run it hard and it too is a wear item; the latch on the console quit working, wear item; Drivers cooler stopped, wear item; etc, wear item. Seems like everything is a "wear item" under a dealer contract. When I initially purchased the truck, I did not argue on the price as it was less than anyone else wanted for it. Purchased the warranty as I was assured it covered everything bumper to bumper, except for wear items. I had two kids just entering college and wanted to have no worries for the 8 years it would take to get them through. That is the only reason I purchased a new and not use truck.

I blew out the front axle (dealer finally said something about a bad carrier bearing) and the dealer tried to pass on the repairs until I contacted Chrysler, then they did the work. I was waiting for them to claim "wear item" again, except they had it in the shop the week previous to check that everything was ok before I went on a long trip. As it was under 30Kmi they repaired it under the Factory Warranty. The also asked me if I had purchased the truck there. The dealership stickers are all over the thing. They at first could not find my rig in the computer, then when they did, had to ask when the last time they had had it in the shop. Was without a truck for three, almost four weeks.

Yes I am upset at the dealer (Lithia Tri-Cites WA) but to keep from getting into my situation, make sure it is a FACTORY Warranty.

After I hit the mileage limits, Ram was kind enough to contact me about purchaseing the Factory Warranty until I let them know the mileage on the truck. They also let me know that I could have purchased the warranty at anytime up to the limits I had just passed.

I bought extended warranties when new for my 2005 Ram and my 2011 Jeep. Never used either of them, So on my 2016 Ram, I decided not to purchase one. I'm hoping it works out as well. Just my $.02

If any one says they are selling you a Bumper to bumper do not believe it,Every contract is very specific on what is covered and exceptions,

Mine has the exact same coverage as it did when new with zero deductible.

I have never seen any contract that matched the 3/36 basic.I know max care does not.I liked the zero deduct-that;s what I bought as well,I have always done my own work.but I know what parts cost,

So, do I have this right? The factory powertrain warranty is 5/100,000 miles. If I buy an 8 year/125,000 mile MaxCare warranty, I'm really only getting 3 years and 25,000 miles of additional warranty? Is this right?

Thanks,

That's a correct way to look at it.......but I am more concerned with the rest of the truck and not so much the drive train. I like that the 3 year/36000 mile rest of the truck, electronics, HVAC, etc.stuff is now covered for 8 years/125,000 miles.

Max Care covers alot more than Powertrain. I don't think the powertrain needs a warranty

The maxcare is a good value for sure with the price of any repairs these days, that being said I have done a lot of powertrain warranty repairs over the years

But as I posted in the beginning, make sure it's the best that Ram offers, otherwise you could end up with an OEM extended warranty that doesn't cover it all.

My truck was finally delivered after eight weeks. Purchased from Dennis Dillion Dodge in Boise. Process was very smooth originally quoted price was exactly what I paid. I saved at least 5k after the expense of traveling to Boise from San Diego. Local dealers would not even respond when shown Dillion's quote.
Regarding the warranty I purchased from Chrysler Warranty direct. I purchased on line. Max Care 96 month 125,000 miles. Price was $2518.00 after 227.00 off for Presidents sale discount.
While at the dealer with the finance guy closing the purchase finance guy tried to sell me a warranty for $4000 didn't say what warranty. When I replied I was only interested in Chrysler warranty and had already gotten a quote offered to sell the warranty at the online price of 2800, which was the online quote. At first offered to sell me the warranty as an add on to my payment. I replied was not interested in financing a warranty. Then offered to sell me the warranty for $2800.
I had already received a quote from Chrysler with a $150 discount so declined again.
Finance guy complimented me on being prepared.
I had already spoken to Chrysler and knew I could wait up to a year for same price.
Even though the finance guy was trying to sell their warranty there was no pressure just a discussion of the facts and options.
I highly recommend Dillion. I worked with a sales consultant, Audrey to define my order then worked with salesman Brandon to take delivery.
There was one hiccup. I had gotten pre-approval from my local credit union and had planned to take a check from the credit union to pay for the truck.
My credit union told me that after the first of the year California DMV changed the rules on out of state purchases.
I had to accept the dealer financing which was competitive. Then when back in CA go to the DMV to pay for the registration costs. Then my credit union will refinance the truck to the originally pre-approved price.
The dealer did charge me CA sales tax. Haven't been to the DMV yet so will see what adventure that entails.
Driving home I noticed a vibration on the freeway that I thought was an out of balance tire. In Vegas I stopped at a "Discount Tire" store and purchased lifetime rotation and balancing for $80 which I was going to do anyway. I was in and out in 60 minutes. One tire was off 3 ounces another 1.5 and the rest ok. Balance problem solved. I've been buying all my tires at Discount Tire for 35 years.
If I'd gone to a dealer I'm sure they would have rebalanced for free but I would have had to make and appointment and waste at least half a day.

Sorry for long post.
Summary:
I highly recommend Dennis Dillion in Boise
Bought Chrysler direct factory warranty for better price that what dealer could offer.

I've posted and followed this Thread. This Thread is a perfect example of what you get with a TDR subscription. MHalberstadt, not to put words in your mouth, but I'd say you were prepared from a lot of what you got from this Thread concerning your extended warranty. When I purchased/ordered my 07 C&C alot of advise came from TDR including my B&W Elite flat bed (thanks to RustyJC for the link to B&W website). Good luck on your new truck and please post about your Ca DMV experiance. I had a pleasant experiance for about 1 year, until I found out the Comifornia Dealer incorrectly registered the truck due to a recent change in registration for incomplete vehicles (that's what a C&C is, and says so on the door sticker) then the nightmare started and annually returns every time I have to pay the registration.
