I have been getting 3 to 4 extended warranty offers a week by mail as my truck will soon be 3 years old. Finally I bit and called one (Service Protection Direct). For only $4058 I can fully cover my truck with 21,000 miles on it for the next 3 years. I explained that I had 7-70,000 Powertrain limited warranty from DC and 7-100,000 Cummings warranty. I asked "Would I be able to collect from both if something happened?" The answer was no. "Then why would I buy coverage from your company that you wouldn't honor?" "Oh, well we also sell the warranty for $3250 without the Drive train warranty. " I told they sorry, I'll be self insured. End of call. For these prices I figure the company only needs to sell one warranty out of a thousand mailings to make a profit.

I have never seen a warranty that high before. Just got a bumper to bumper 5 year 100k with a $100 deductible (I drive lots of miles) added on my new truck for $1600. So I figured it was worth it with the new EPA crap etc. .

The best time to buy extended warranty is at the time you purchase your truck and it is highly negotiable. I got mine (Chrysler) for half price.
