:confused:My truck just received a new turbo under warranty. This has me thinking I may want to look into an extended warranty. I need some advice on what some of you have had good luck with and what you think I should consider.

IF you plan on keeping the truck a while (5+ years) I would reccomend it. I bought mine at the time of purchase. for $1200. It has paid for itself 3x already. Mainly with balljoints. All 4 plus labor is about a $1000 job I would def reccomend one

The very best time to get extended warranty is from the dealer at the time of purchase. The dealer may ask for $1200 and more for it, but remember, it is highly negotiable. I got mine for less then half price.

I never considered an extended warranty on the vehicles I purchased new. I always said to myself that it would take at least 1 or 2 major failures to make up that extra cost. But, boy was I wrong. I wish I would have purchased one for my wife's Silverado when it was still available. In just the last year, the repairs I've had on the airbag system and front end parts alone would have more than paid for the warranty.

As long as I can afford it, I'm probably going to purchase one for my '07 Ram before it's too late.

I'd let it go for now. You can buy a Dodge Maxcare from a number of online dealers up to 3yr/36 months at a substantial discount. Use your inclusive factory one for now.

Your Turbo is part of the Cummins warranty 5/100K, the extended warranty only will allow you to rent a car. My extended warranty from D/C will not pay for my HVAC mixing box vent door. Look over the items that are covered before you purchase a extended warranty.

Thanks for the input guys. I have never been much of a fan of extended warranties, but the turbo replacement rattled me a little. It's true that the 5/100 coverage will take care of future turbo service and I appreciate the reminder. I think I will sit tight.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
