Heading to the dealership shortly to pick up my new to me 2015 2500. Of course they are trying to sell me an extended warranty. They claim it covers the emissions system. Does anyone have experience with this warranty? Thanks

Make sure it's an actual Chrysler warranty. The aftermarket companies are generally going to try to screw you if you make a claim. Max Care was awesome on our 2014, wish I still had it. On a 2015 you probably can't get it either. Post what they are trying to sell you and we can have a look.

It wasn’t a Chrysler warranty. I don’t recall the name of the company that would provide it. They wanted $3500 for 3 years. But they couldn’t tell me if the DEF system was covered or the EGR and they said exhaust was not covered. I passed.

Usually the emission system components aren't covered on an extended warranty. That's why there was a longer warranty on them right out the gate. You need to read the fine print on that! Seems a bit steep for only 3 years coverage! A lot of the "after market" warranties are very specific on where you can take your vehicle for the repairs. Some will even have you pay for the tear down to see what is wrong, then say it's not covered! AHS did that to a friend on his F350! Had a rod knock, paid for tear down, AHS was available while tear down happened, got stuck with bill for tear down and replacement!  Just read the fine print and if they want to rush you, WALK away as fast as you can! Mopar Maximum Care covers everything but the particulate filter for emissions systems, to include the full DEF and EGR systems.

Most aftermarket warranties are garbage. Some are equal if not better than the factory extended warranties.

I went aftermarket on mine because I've dealt with them in the past on another rig without any concerns or problems. They also gave me a booklet of what is and isn't covered, and I called the company again to see if anything changed, and they told me straight up what was and wasn't covered. The "wasn't covered" was the DOC/DPF/SCR (catalytic converters). DEF injector, exhaust back pressure sensors, the whole nine is covered. I like my warranty because it's unlimited rental coverage no matter how long it takes the dealer to repair it.

Only knock is the fact that I would need to check with the extended warranty company before taking it to a different dealer. However, I really don't take the truck far away from home, and I got extended towing on my insurance for up to 250 miles. But that might be a concern for someone who drove their truck from NY to say Oregon.

I hate to be cynical, but I wouldn't believe a word of what they tell you over the phone. Only in writing. And then when you go to file a claim, some of these companies blow you off, delay, excuses, etc. So if you find a good company, stick with it.

You forgot the details where I already dealt with the company with my previous rig and why I chose them again. Again, I'll repeat -- NO issues, because my dealer handled it all if there were any. Wouldn't even know if I used a Mopar warranty or an aftermarket warranty in my cases.

The booklet that I'm referring to is over 30 pages of what is covered and small amount of what what isn't covered for my particular plan. So yes it is in writing, and I record all of my calls with big companies anyways, so I have the rep stating it out loud in a recording. It's no different than what Mopar covers, as I have the booklet for that warranty plan as well, because I was comparing them at time of purchase. Lastly, the company I deal with underwrites many factory warranties.

I also bought my truck from a very reputable dealer that stands behind what they sell, and not some fly-by-night hole in the wall.

So yes, I'm sticking with this company more than I'd stick with the Mopar warranty, especially if it hasn't given me any troubles on top of saving me money. My money, my experience, and my prerogative. ;)

But, like we've all said -- be careful and choose wisely.

Sounds like you got a good combination of an ethical and conscientious dealer and a good warranty company. You have been careful and chosen wisely! Now, lets hope the venture capital guys don't "buy out" either one and start cutting corners.

I bought the Maxcare on my '18 and came out ahead with it. Bought it again on my new 2023. Never an issue when I had to use it. And, non-Mopar companies always concern me in regard to what happens if they go bankrupt/sold out. Mopar told me when I asked that they put the funds into a sort of 'escrow' account just for warranty purposes and it should survive a bankruptcy proceeding. Just my .02 and preference.
