If I worried about the look of the oil, I'd never be able to get the truck out of the driveway... I'd always be changing oil!
You do realize that oil has over 22k miles on it right??

Yeah I know. Nature of the beast on the 04. 5 and newer engines. Mine still has some transparency right now and I have 26,000 miles on it with just a Full flow Amsoil EaO80.

Actually, the dipstick makes it look better than it is... that's what mine looked like right before I cut those filters open... pretty good difference isn't there?

I don't care what it looks like as long as it comes back good on the UOA...

100 miles on new oil with the eap 110 bypass its dark black on my truck. .

*i need to but some amsoil filters for the bypass. anyone want some commission???

I am going to open up the LF16035 that had 7800 miles on it from the beginning of my last oil change and the EaO80 I just took off. I know for a fact that my oil didn't look like what your pic posted above shows. I'm not even running a bypass. This oil change I have the Donaldson ELF7349 on the truck.

With an 04, I would hope it doesn't look like mine... my point was that looking at oil on a dipstick doesn't give a representative view.

This is running Amsoil AME 15w-40 and a Amsoil Eao80. Here is what my oil looked like with 27,600 miles.

On my 04. 5 the oil looks good on the stick but when I take the oil sample from the FS 2500 to send it for testing it looks back. I belive that the sample port on the 2500 in on the in side of the filter dont know what it looks like on the other. Ill have to make sure of the sample in or out side of the filter. I guess I could take the bypass return line off and sample there to see what it looks like

I would think that a filter change is pretty cheap insurance IMHO and should be changed at the same time as the bypass. I agree that it's a far cry cheaper than replacing both filters and oil, but you will ultimately gain with the addition of the extra quart of oil and replenishing the additive package to boot!
