I've wanted to add another gauge for a while now, mechanical FP pre-filter, to monitor exactly what the Mallory is set on and to compare the loss of psi's through the filter ( I have a SPA gauge in the cab, monitoring the post filter psi's). I was going to put it in the cab, but really wanted to try a exterior mount, to see how it looks/performs.

I picked up a small sheet of heavy gauge steel, cut a 1" strip from same, bent it to the correct shape to follow the contour of the hood, sanded and painted the mount flat black and added a strip of felt on it's underside to protect the hood from scratches. The line within the wire loom is braided SS -4AN. I drilled two holes under the hood, where it mounts. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the install.

Here's a few pic. s of my 4 ton Vette... .

Looks great, Scott! Very professional install from a guy who use to claim that he is not mechanically inclined! How come the autometer has to stay out in the cold? :D

Thanks guys !!! I thought about calling this gauge my M-I-L gauge, but that wouldn't really fit unless I put it in the bed, you know ' In the rear with the gear' :D

Scott..... Way sweet truck!!!!!!!!!!! Love that hood "Bannar". .

Nice clean install on the guage, also.....

Thanks Colin, I'll make you a deal... The hood banner is from my friends shop, you get that HX35 installed and I'll send you a custom set free of charge ( they would say HX35 Turbo Intercooled) :D

Scott,

Very nice!! Tell me about that ATS 3 piece manifold that's in your signature. Sounds like something I gotta have.

johnwen1, just sent you a PM.

Extreme, funny you should mention the big tailpipe crowd. We have more than a few around these parts, seems like they stop BOMBing those little riceburners right after they add those 50 HP exhaust tips and 100 HP K+N's :D .

I have yet to see one with aftermarket gauges, but if they did add them, sure it would be on the cowl for the 'shock value'. I decided to try this location merely for the fact that it's a mechanical gauge and didn't want to run the chance of having a gauge failure and diesel spill if my wife was driving the truck without me. I looked into the isolaters but, to be honest, didn't want the hassel of trying to snake yet another set of wires and -4AN line through my already crowded firewall sources.

Scott..... All good points!!

I've got a set of Rays bolts, and still undecided about what kind of FP guage to get.....

Thanks for more info... your posts are always way informative, and heplful...

Colin, if you don't mind digital, the SPA's are real nice, they have a few features that you don't have in other gauges and so far, the sender seems built to last. If your thinking more along the lines of analog, whether mechanical or not, the Autometer is also a real nice gauge, as I'm sure many others.
