Think I may change my mind and go with the BD as it has everything included, although a lot of money initially. The standard magnefine does not appear to be serviceable from what I can tell. When it's time is up you throw it away and buy another. The Magnefine performance filter has a replaceable filter and the only flow rate I have seen is 7gpm for the 5/16. 1/2" will be higher but no numbers. I also could not find replacement filters on the site for the performance filter.

I looked at that one but it did not show the fittings and hoses so I passed. The PDF does show everything to put it together tho. If the Racor comes complete that is a good price and would pick that one up. Now>>>>> where to mount it.

I made my own from a NAPA filter head $30 and a PH8A filter$3. 00. I had to modify the filter head a little. It's 1/2" in and 1/2"out.

I used the BD kit, easy install came with the mount,hose and fittings,using a Donaldson filter. The hose size is 1/2" comes with neat adapter to the steel pipe that you cut, no leaks. Laurie

I had a Ford F550 with a stick that ran a synthetic ATF in the transmission and a great friend who owns a transmission shop suggested a 2 micron filter from Donaldson... That transmission had an oil pump and oil cooler in the radiator. . We ran that truck for close to 500K miles and changed that filter 2 or 3 times during the time we had the truck... Later when we traded and purchased a Dodge 5500 we did the same thing to that automatic...

I personally think anytime you have a transmission that works hard and you have some system to be able to better filter the oil than the factory system your way ahead of the game...

Was that set-up on the Ford a factory stock item? Aftermarket?

Everything I have read so far states "If your vehicle is new with less than so many miles, install the filter on the supply to cooler line". "If you have more miles on the vehicle install filter on the return to the transmission". The reasoning for this is that the lines and coolers have accumulated debris by now and can break loose at any time and go right into the trans.
Although that kit looks good, with 80k on my truck I think I need to go on the return line. I wish these full kit units had an on-line installation directions so you would know what and where they designed these filters to go.

Let us know what they say. The BD has a large flow rate but is around 25 microns which maybe ok... will be interesting to see what DTT says. One thing thing I do not like about the BD filter kit is the push on hoses.
 
and what's wrong with push on hoses,,,,they are the best when used with the proper line for the fittings,,,no uggly cheap looking hose clamps,that cut into your lines,,,and yes,,i have tested them myself BEFORE beleiving in them,,,watching 2 300 pound guys playing tug of war with a oush on union and 2 pieces of hose made me a believer,,,,AND yes,,i thaught about the heat factor too,,so i poured some boiling water from the coffee maker thinking it would make them fail,,but NO,,,they held perfectly...
