Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) extra trans cooler w/fan?

I haven't found much info on this. Is it recommended to install an additional transmission cooler with a fan, instead of a deep trans pan? or maybe both?

Anyone have any experiences or opinions? I don't tow, but carry a camper on back forest roads, so going slow ect. without alot of wind cooling. Thanks

I think a cooler with a fan would work fine for you I had a cust that pulled the floats in the Rose parade and we had to install a cooler with a fan and it took care of his problem

There was an article in TDR a few years ago about a cooler and fan that was mounted under the bed. Can anyone remember which issue?

A more effective transmission cooler is definitely a better mod than a new pan. A bigger pan will not help, but one with aluminum fins may help dissipate heat, though not as much as a better cooler.



An electric fan will definitely help whether a pusher or a puller, but will be most helpful at slow speeds if mounted in front of the vehicle. If under, it should be moving cool air if possible, any extra breeze will help. As long as you keep under 200 degrees F and are not experiencing any heat related side effects, you should be alright.

I have done this with a old POS van a Dodge of course. A bigger and deeper pan as well as a trans cooler with a fan mounted in front, it also had a extra filter for more capacity as well. I used this van for paper route delivery. I would load 2 pallets of news papers and go up a VERY steep hill in Seattle. I could tell a diiferance with the fan off or on. Low speeds many stops and starts on hill going up and REALLY loaded.
