Hi All, I just purchased my EZ and am extremely anxious to install it. I have gages for pyro, boost and trans temp. I plan to install fuel pressure gage in the future as soon as the wife releases more funds! Is there any risk in running the EZ without the fuel pressure gage or should I wait until the gage is installed?

What is the chances of my lift pump or VP44 going bad with only the use of an Es? I am installing this on my 2002 with only 30K miles on it if that information helps. I have changed the fuel filter every 10K regardless of condition.

I just want to be sure I will not mess anything up by installing the EZ without the gage.

Thanks in advance.

Frank

If you've recently changed the fuel filter and the lift pump fills your fuel filter back up in two or three cycles, it'll be good for a while. Fill in your location in your signature/profile, maybe a member in your vicinity has a fuel pressure gauge they can check it with you until you mount a permanent gauge.

I agreee with Bob... . make sure you have fuel pressure. As far as the EZ taking the VP44 out... I havent seen it. . My wifes 2k has an EZ for the last 60-70k and the 44 is still doing fine. .

The EZ will not hurt the VP44, by itself. If you do not have larger injectors or other mods that use more fuel. My understanding of the EZ is that it will not cause the VP44 to exceed its designed capacity. It just puts the fuel in earlier. Mine has 3 positions. My memory  is that they are 6-10-15 lbs of boost. Mine is set in the middle. And, that is why I went with the DD1s instead of IIs. Just a little more :-laf but not too much.

Looks like I had better wait until I put the gage in before In install the EZ. What do you guys think of this combo? I was thinking of getting the metal fuel filter cover from Genos wit the hole tapped in it for a connexion point and the Auto MEter Z series 0-30lb electronic gage to match my other gages. Will this set up work Ok? Can I connect the sending unit directly to the the cover or is it best to attached it to a length of hows to isolate it from the engine? What do you guys recommend? I was going top try to mount it in the ashtray or some other place below. Should this gage go into the a pillar mount and maybe the boost gage be moved down below? Which is most importiant?

Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure I do it right.

Thanks

Frank

I have a 99 & had issues mounting the sending unit directly to the filter housing. The vibration from the engine was shaking the B-jeesus (sp) out of it. You'll be better off IMHO to isolate the sending unit from the engine by use of a snubber hose. (rubber fuel line hose) I made a 90 degree bracket & attached mine to the master cylinder brake resovoir.

Clay :)

Clay, Thank you for your reply. What is the best way to make up the hose? Can I use standard fuel line and a couple of barbed fittings? I want this to be a safe install as my wife sometimes drives the truck. Would some type of prefab line with fittings be better?

Somebody will hit me for this, but I used an 18" Airequip 3000 psi line especially made for the fuel set-up. I have a hard time putting cheap fuel and oil lines in a hot area, such as under the hood; when for a few more bucks you can put something that is not going to fail or burst. JM2c

I just installed a FP gauge for this extact reason, I have an EZ waiting to be installed. My issue was at 45K miles on the ticker I felt like I had a loss of power - probably just the 285s - but felt that the LP needed to be watched. So I used the geno's hose and a Westach FP gauge: 13. 5 - 14 lbs or so at idle, 11 lbs cruise, nothing lower than 9. 5 lbs WOT@20 lbs of boost. I guess I will install the EZ and find out what happens. Good luck 02/

As for the 20lb of boost. You will surely feel a difference when you can push thirty easily (after the EZ install and elbow thingie) :-laf .

Hey Glasmiths, Where do you get a hose like you are describing? Is it steel braid? What are the end fittings?

Amnewsom, Good Luck with your EZ. You look like you are in the same boat I am in. Sounds like your lift pump turned out to be OK. Please let me know your first impressions when you install your EZ. I cant wait!

Thanks

I purchased mine from a tdr member, whose name I forgot  , but have not seen him in a long time (couple of years) for $12. 00 pp. You can have them made in any hose shop for less though. Yes it is steel braided inside. I had some made for my oil bypass; about 8 ft total and it cost me $49. 92, and that include all adapters, els and the like. Won't have to worry about high heat and rot. One of these days I am going to do that with my fuel pump when it gets relocated back by tank.

02diesel, look for a Goodyear hose or Aeroquip shop or anything to do with hydraulic lines in the yellow pages. Bring in your adapters and ends and give them the application and length and they'll do the rest

Ok so I need to find a goodyear hose with 1/8 npt ends on it ? In addition it sounds like I may need a few 1/8 connectors and possibly a needle valve? Does this sound right? Do I need to specify diesel fuel when I get the hose? Also is there a difference in the needle valves when it relates to diesel fuel? I see some buying at the Home Depot and some buying at an auto parts store. I want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks

Check this out www.surpluscenter.com They have a lot of good stuff; and lots of hoses. If you are talking about putting a grease gun hose on it - good luck. :)

They also have a LOT of magnets. Prolly find one to fit around the fuel hose! :-laf

no body mentioned the auto transmission in this discussion . i dont have an ez but i understand our weak auto cant take much hp. increase, i now have 357000kms with no transmission problems. comments please.

Hi Frank

I have GENOS fuel gauge with the isolator taped in at the VP44 I think this is the best place to take psi. you know what the pump is getting.

If you like I have gauges to test you’re your pump to see what you have. You will need to install a permanent gauge.

I live in Vista let me know if you would like to get together?

02, I just installed my EZ this weekend, WOW, what a change this is what I paid for when I signed on the line for my 02. I saw no change at the VP for Fuel pressure. Any questions PM me. Good luck.

Reddge, Thanks for the offer. Maybe we can get togather on this when the parts come in if you have time. It would be great to have someone that has done this before.

amnewsom, Congrats on your EZ. Its good to hear you are very happy with the results. Cant wait to get mine installed and see how it works!!

I will keep you all posted.
