Hello All,

Is it detrimental to completely block off waste gate line?? While changing fluids and filters and general tinkering yesterday, I put pinch off pliers on boost hose to see if there is a difference. I keep my EZ on setting 2, and was getting 26 lbs of boost that would drop to 24 steady at wot. With hose clamped off I get 30 dropping to about 29 steady at wot. Also a slight SOP difference. Do I have a weak wastegate that opens even with the boost elbow supplied by edge? What are your thoughts on fixing this??

Thanks for your inputs

Ron

The wastegate actuator is not a "on/off" kind of thing. It's more of a "slow-on" with increasing bypass as it opens. Pinching off the wastegate shouldn't be a problem if you keep an eye on the boost - the wastegate is simply there to prevent an overboost condition.

Exactly what IS an overboost for these trucks? With a gasser, overboosting is really bad - it leans out your mixture and makes the combustion temperatures considerably hotter. In a diesel, more boost cools the EGT (granted, it takes more fuel to MAKE more boost, hence "increasing" the EGT over stock). Are we just interested in keeping the turbo at/around it's best efficiency points? Why do they even PUT a wastegate on the trucks to begin with?
