If I add the EZ edge and boost elbow do I have to disable the wastegate to get max. performance?

Thanks in advance

It looks like you have a 2001 which should have the puny 9cm turbo, which if it's like mine, has no boost elbow, or place to install the one from EZ. Therefore, all I understand I can do is disable the wastegate.

Please correct me if I'm not getting this... .

thanks.

Well..... yes and no. You can block the hardline with something. DD TTPM even comes with instructions for it. (I don't have one but a friend does)... ... It is a very small brass plug for the hardline. You drill a tiny hole in you hardline after you block it.

My Truck

I have a 2001 auto and the 22 shell trick DID NOT WORK FOR ME. I had to use the turnbuckle for now and it works like a charm 30 psi no problem using a PS boost module.

High boost WILL NOT icrease acceleration it will only low your exhaust gas temperatures and it will prevent defueling at 20psi.

Bob... thanks, I've almost got it.

I'm trying to remain "stealth" with mods since I have a brand new truck, and don't know yet if it could turn out to be a dog.

So, a turnbuckle is just one more thing I'd have to remove before going into a dealer. I bought the EZ for performance... . don't tow, and always running empty. So, what is my benefit from higher boost "it will prevent defueling at 20psi" ?? If the turnbuckle increase in boost doesnt' mean faster, what benefit is there from the defueling part?

thanks for your patience.....

The EZ has a boost module built in. It's function is to fool the ecm into thinking that you have not reached 20psi boost (the point the ecm reduces fueling)and allow you to build more boost to keep the air/fuel mixture correct to limit heat. If you can't build over 20psi due to the stock wastegate then it's isn't an issue. With the EZ adding fuel, you should also add air via higher boost level. There-that's clear as mud!

John B... .

Again, It's slowly sinking in... .

But... I'm getting 20lbs. boost and WOT egt's of approx. 1100 with the stock wastegate. (no muffler, just resinator in factory 3" system) So, since my egt's seem under control (with-in safe limits) and I can't expect any faster acceleration, is there any reason I should do the turnbuckle? Looks like what you're trying to tell me is that the higher boost and fueling are related to safe egt's? Again, I don't tow and always run empty.

I guess you can tell I don't want to mess with the wastegate if there's no benefit for my particular situation.

thanks... .

I do believe the EZ continues fueling above 20psi. If you never get over 20psi the EZ will stop adding fuel at 20. So I think you should have more power/acceleration over 20psi. My . 02

Thanks for all the input. I ordered my EZedge this morning from Bret in Ogden Utah. I know I paid more but I like dealing direct in case of warranty issues ect. I asked him about disableing the wastegate and was told it would not be that much different. But I"ll do it anyway he reccomended the 22 cal shell caseing. I get 20. 5 lbs boost stock we shall see what happens. the 22 is a cheap trick I'll try that first and then the turn buckle. I am having trouble finding the post for the turnbuckle.

Thanks again for the input. BOMBS AWAY!!!!

Bob Wagner and Mick 2500... .

I have a "mental block" about this EZ issue with the 2001. 5 auto's with the 9cm turbo.

I just want to be sure you are both talking about the same thing... i. e. , alternative methods for diabling the wastegate.

I have just installed my EZ, but have done nothing yet to the wastegate. I have decided to use the turnbuckle method. It is my understanding that unless I disable the wastegate through turnbuckle/22shell or any other "blocking" method that I won't fully realize the performance potential of the EZ. Right now I get 20 lbs boost, and am expecting to get approx 6-8 more lbs after disabling the wastegate.

Is my thinking correct?

Is there any other factor related to the EZ,boost module, boost elbow, wastegate issues I should know?

Should I expect quicker acceleration after disabling the wastegate?

Sorry I'm so lame about this... .

Joe
