Have had an EZ for awhile and am perfectly happy with performance. Have been thinking about adding either 275's or DD1's but have questions. Truck is used primarly for towing.

1. Has anyone experienced improved mileage?

2. Is there any concerns regarding quality of DD injectors?

3. What are the benefits of this combo?

4. Is there any downside to either combo?

John

I have an Edge EZ and DD2's in my truck. IMHO, DD products are well made (I haven't had any problems. other than bad weld on my muffler) Customer service is excellent as well.

I have noticed improved mileage when I keep my foot out of the radiator:D

Power is verrrrrrry nice:cool:

Tow's my 10k lb 5er like it wasn't even their.

John, as can be seen in my . sig, I have DD 3's and their version of the EZ, the True Torque Power Module. I don't tow anything however. I have read on various TDR threads that if you tow a large percentage of the time, maybe DD stage 2's are the way to go, but if not, I highly recommend you do all the way to stage 3's.

My reason: Lots of people start out small, going with 275's or stage 1 or 2's, then decide they want more, so upgrade again, and again, and..... this piecemeal method gets expensive fast! So, if possible, ride in or ask to drive a Ram that has stage 3's and the EZ in it, and trust me, you will want them! :D

The DD Super Mentals came out just after I got my stage 3's, and I would have gone straight to them if they had been available in time. BOMBing is a progressive disease, and for 90% of us, there is no such thing as "enough" power... .....

You will certainly enjoy any upgrades you do, and DD products are extremely good quality. I'm sure the Bully Dog injectors are also, but I have no personal experience with them.

John,

I have the 275's and the PE EZ and with the PE set on the 1st position I have experienced a slight gain in the MPG, however, with the PE set in the 3rd position (most aggressive) I had a decrease in the MPG, but man was it fun to drive.

I couldn't tow my 36ft Fiver, 12,700lbs, with the PE set in the 3rd position though. The EGT's went thru the roof and the black smoke rolled out getting my truck and Fiver all black with soot.

When not towing I put it back to the 3rd setting and when I tow I move it to the 1st setting.

Reliability should not even be a factor.

Wow, it always amazed me the differences in performance from vehicle to vehicle with the supposed same modifications.

Here is my experience:

SETUP: I have the EZ box and the 275 injectors. The EZ box is set on level 3 ALL THE TIME :D (Did many experiments with setting #2 though)

SMOKE: very little. The only smoke I get is when I really nail it at low boost, it puffs for about 2 seconds, and that's it. Once the boost comes up, it is clean as can be. I don't understand why some people see so much smoke. I don't.

EGT: The absolute MAX that I have EVER seen with setting #3 and the 275's is about 1190 degrees. Even that was rare instances. For the most part, it is around 1100 max. Again, don't understand that one post saw high EGT's. Many vendors recommend this as a "safe-EGT" combination for towing.

USE: I tow a 9000 lb fiver, and just returned from a second 800 mile trip with this combination of mods. It works.

CAUTION: Your stock clutch will not tolerate much more power than what this combination puts out when you are towing heavy. I even worry about the transmission at this power level towing, as it makes a whole lot more groaning, vibrating sounds than it used to with stock power levels.

FUEL ECONOMY: If you drive 70MPH or higher when towing, setting #3 seems to affect MPG adversely. Not a lot, but some.

If you drive at 55MPH, setting #3 will improve economy by 1MPG.

IMHO, the 275's and the EZ are almost the ideal combination.

But seriously, if you go any more, you need to think about the clutch. Empty, maybe not, but towing, I guarantee you it will be on your mind every time you tow.

My . 02

I also don't tow with the EZ on #3, it's too sensitive for my liking, I leave it set on #2. I would think that if you can get smoke with 275's that DD1's will be worse due to larger orfice sizes. Power is really not an issue, thinking more of economy. Thanks for the reply.

As you can see by my sig. , I have a version of what you are talking about. Excellant towing(as that's what I do) and good fuel mileage. Mine does smoke... ... . a lot more than I would like and yes I have the EZ backed all the way down... ... ... . I think I am going to drop back to 275s and try them. For what they are and what they do the EZ and 275s are the best low budget bang for the buck that I know of... ... ... ... At less than $800 for the pair, that's cheap HP!!:) :) :)

I tow a 9500 lb TT. You CAN go over a safe EGT limit if you REALLY want to. I have found that its pretty easy to stay under 1300 even when accelerating briskly up a steep hill. Its so awesome to not have to say ' gee, I am a hill I wonder if I can pass'. Nope what goes through my mind is, ' wait till these people see me accelerate by them and wish they had this kind of power'. EGT are very managable with just a little brain power.

Go BIG, its never enough.
