I tow a heavy 5th with my 99 2500 and am intrigued by the prospect of adding an "EZ"... But when I quizzed the EZ vendor, I was advised that the downside to the EZ is that I may have to install a "Shift Kit" down the road... . Installation of shift kit sounds scarry. . How necessary is it? What is effect of shift kit?

Re: EZ and a Shift Kit

Yes you will want a shiftkit or get the whole works and do the recommended transmission upgrades. They are a new torque converter, and a valve body that is setup for the power you will want to achieve after you start Bombing. I would bet that after you feel the power of the EZ you will want more. Like DD I's or DD II's or even DD III's. I have just the EZ, 4" exhaust, boost and EGT gauges, and I want more! The EZ will make your truck feel like it should have, come from Dodge. I pull a 22' TT with my setup and it will slip the toque converter when in overdrive lock if I put enough petal just to accelerate but not drop to 3rd. So if I need to getup and go I drop it to 3rd and let the toque converter lockup and keep my foot in it. Then when I can cruise again I'll let it back into 4th OD. If you got a shift kit it will help out and extend the life of your transmission. But you will need the new toque convert and a properly setup valve body if you end up wanting more.
