As I can barely type, please don't take my opinion on computer programming too seriously... That being said, I am not unreasonably biased. I had Edge products on my 01. I now run a Smarty on my 05. Both have been excellent.

Smarty changes fueling curves, fueling heavily sooner... Changing timing adds fuel sooner... My guess is the even numbers change fueling maps, they do not directly affect timing. The odd numbers change fueling maps AND change timing.

Please research Lukens issues with HIS truck. Decide for yourself if his opinions of Smarty are unbiased.

This has nothing to do if I have a biased or unbiased opinion... I would just like to have an answer to why you still get timing rattle with even numbers on the Smarty.

It does not matter if I like the Smarty or dislike it... It's just a simple question. It's been avoided numerous times in several different threads. I've seen others ask the exact same question with no answer. I have asked two different dealers of the Smarty and they are clueless when I ask it... .

Point is, if you add 170hp with no added timing you will get the same problem the duration only VA box does... . HIGH egt's. The VA box doesn't even add 170hp and the egt's are so high a stock turbo can't keep up.

This has nothing to do with ME or MY truck. I've tried both and have decided the Smarty isn't the best thing for me and my needs... Someday it might be, but right now in my own personal opinion it is lacking in a few different things when it comes to stacking with other boxes for max results. I'm sure Marco will work on that. I've seen the Smarty work wonders on some trucks compared to the bully dog... But on others (like mine) the bully dog works better... .

Once again, I'm not bashing the Smarty... I'm just asking a question.

Bully Dog and TST stack fine????

This is the real kicker... .

The Bully Dog adds timing. BUT, It will stack just fine with the tst (which also adds timing)

I've talked to several guys that have the Smarty/Tst stack and they had to get the adjustable timing put on their tst box to stack with the Smarty on even numbers... .

It just doesn't make sense... .

I wish someone would tell me how you can add 170hp with NO added timing and have normal EGT's...

Bully Dog and TST sure didn't stack well on my truck and like you said, both were running timing. It wasn't only the Bully Dog I had problems with,... also the PPE HOT with the TST,... that was a no can do. I battled with all that and had several threads on that and there were a ton of guys who had the same problem. When TST came out with their user adj Timing feature then my problem went away and I can run, I bet, anyones DL stacked with my TST tks to that feature. All I would get was rattle and absolutely terrifying loud pop (almost like a gun shot/backfire when I'd get high rpms shifting from 3rd to od. My truck was useless for 6 or 7 months. I also had a popcorn popping sound at lower rpms when accelerating. A bunch of guys told me I was running out of fuel but a rail gauge said not.

It was a timing problem. I just got a Scary Larry today and stacked it up with my TST but my tst is sitting on 0* and no pop and it runs fine,... so far. I haven't bumped the TST up much yet,... sitting on 3/1 right now and EZ on 2. My point is there is a lot of guys who had this problem that you didn't have,... go figure,... and then I haven't had a problem with the SMARTY in a stack and you have,... let's face it,... these trucks are just different and the same mods don't work on all of them.

Regarding your statement/question about the timing/no timing on the SMARTY,... I'm sure no expert but as most of us,... we just have learned what we know the hard way,... I would say you are probably right that 170hp can't be with timing/no timing. I think what NGM said a few posts earlier is probably right on target. There however must be a little Italian secret in their somewhere because I had the VAc3. 2 (duration only) as my first box and it was red hot on egts and my SMARTY on 8 isn't. There's something going on there and it's more than using just your stock timing too. Maybe someday Marco will enlighten the not so learned.
