98 injection pump concern

My dad and I installed an EZ on his 2000 auto/3. 54. We used the restricted fitting that came with it for the wastegate. He hauled abour 20,000 today and claims no change. Also no change empty. Should I plug the wastegate or? Wondering why it is so much less on his from others on here. He is stock besides the EZ.

Thanks in advance for any info.

An EZ would benifit from a 4" exhaust and at least a K&N or Amsoil filter in the stoock airbox. There is absolutley no need to disable the wastegate on a stock truck, you will gain NOTHING. It even tells you that in the instructions. The boost elbow and disabling of the wastgate are for trucks with injectors and the like.

Something is VERY wrong!

If he noticed no difference in performance with the EZ, either the connector isn't on properly, or the EZ is toast.

You should notice a BIG difference.

On setting #3, you will notice it mostly when you get on it at low boost - If it is working, you should see a big black puff of smoke when you lay into it - at LOW boost. If you don't see this, either it isn't working or not making the proper connection.

You WILL notice a difference if and when it is working.

Trust me.

oops forgot

we did put in a knn air filter a while back. We have it connected right and he claims to hear the turbo a lil bit more. it is on setting 3 and just doesnt seem to be all there. Ill do a lil drivin with it tomorrow and see what i can figure out

Wait a sec... What are you talking about with putting an EZ on setting Three? my EZ has no switches or knobs or anything, just plug it in, am i missing something?

I had no idea!!! aside from a 4" JRE exhaust and a psychotty, i am bone stock, but i have the Auto trans, what should i set the EZ to? i am not towing or hauling, just driving around town and in the highway. I want speed, but i dont want to fry my trannie. Suggestions for which setting that will give me performance but wont break or destroy anything?

with the jumper all the way to the right (setting 3) you will be fine. I think they even state that on the Power Edge website. My dad is gonna use his for hauling as wellas empty per Power Edges reccommendations. But as long as you dont have the comp with the auto you will be fine

If you have the EZ jumper to the either end you might want to try moving it to the other end. One end is setting 1 (timing only) and the other end is setting 3 (timing and fueling).

CumminsTurbo425 -

Your signature lists the BD Plug N Power (which is a VA) and the PE COMP box. Are you running both boxes??? The PE COMP has the EZ incorporated into it... ... . just curious.

yeah i run both..... besides the knn the BD box was my first mod and left it with the rest when installed. it does make a lil more difference on timing with both of them on. I use them all the time and normally drive with Comp on 4. Seems like a combination that is working right now.

There was a thread awile back that was almost the same deal. Whoever it was ,I can't remember, found a wire in one of the plugs that wasn't crimped completely and had pulled the wire out of the pin, you might want to try looking at that.

You should definitely notice a difference, especially when towing a load. I would check the connection and the settings, if you haven't already done so. There are two allen screws on the box, opposite the end the wires run out of. Take them out and with the logo on the box facing up look at the jumper settings. Setting three will be all the way to the right and this is where the jumper should be. Setting three is the most aggressive setting and like the post said, you will see smoke at low boost. If you still don't notice any difference, go back to the instructions or call Edge Products.

I saw a medium difference

CumminsTurbo425,

I installed the EZ prior to installing the DTT VB & TC. Although I did not realize the big difference that some people see, I did see some. I believe that what differences a person will see is greatly dependent on the individual truck. What I did not do prior to the install is to establish a baseline. If I assume that my stock HP was anything close to what Dodge claims for a stock 99 w/auto transmission I was probably at around 200 (or maybe below). I dyno'd the truck this last Sunday and had a reading of about 226. I believe the EZ made a difference but not the 50 HP that PE advertises on their web site. I plan to change out the injectors some time in the future and I think this is where I will se a bigger change. MHO …. .

You do need the elbow to see all of the power increase of any additional fueling. I have proven this with testing.

One other thing to try, disconnect the battery for an hour or so. Then see if there's any additional improvement. Believe it or not, this did work on another member's truck.

Steven, a 99 auto may get 185 on a dyno (I've been told that 20+% parasitic losses in a stock auto is very normal). Also, the EZ doesn't have its max HP gain at the truck's peak HP (around 2700rpms). Meaning that if your truck dyno'ed 226HP, your gain at peak HP was likely about 41HP. Based on my experience, you'll get about 20-25HP more than that at around 2000-2200rpms - that makes about a 65HP gain max, with 41HP gain at peak HP.

Me Too

I had the same experience. Some power gain, but nowhere near what I expected after reading the info here.

Turns out my first box was not adding fuel. The slight performance gains were due solely to the increased boost. Edge products were extremely helpful in troubleshooting and ended up exchanging my bad box with a new one, a few months after I bought it.

The S. O. P. difference is really noticable! I can now belch black smoke before the boost comes up (setting #3). I have a stock transmission, so I rarely put the foot down hard enough to do this, so I won't bother changing the jumper, until I get injectors, etc.
