Power Upgrades to a Stocker?

Happy ending to the dead lift pump

Please bear with me as I am a little new to the TDR. I have decided to go for either the EZ or VA box - but am curious which gives the best low end (1000 - 2000 RPM) response on my otherwise stock 2001 ETH. I have read many threads about peak power - but am more interested in quick spool up from 1100 RPM or so. Do either of these boxes add fuel that low? Also confused that the EZ gets by with one box - but VA requires separate one for the ETH. So far I am leaning to the EZ because it comes with a boost elbow for similar cost.

Thanks - Mathew

From what I've heard and seen (driven both) they are about the same (in other words, not much if any seat of the pants differance between the two).

The cost factor however, the EZ has a boost module included. I paid an extra $130 (I think) for mine. Which works well for me.

So if nothing else, your wallet can be your guide.
Other than that, not sure about anything on the ETH

There are some graphs at http://www.bd-power.com/ram/hographs.php?tt=ram
What you'll see is that there is power added between 1300 and 2000 rpm with either box. Differences between the EZ and VA (also called the "BD Plug 'n Power") are very small. As you noted, EZ has the boost module built in. VA has been on the market longer, so maybe (just maybe - who really "knows" for sure?) more of the bugs have been worked out. Since BD has dropped the price, the cost difference isn't as great as it used to be. Customers of both seem happy, and report that both companies are quick to take care of anyone who gets a defective box. I can tell you that the VA adds power, but not visible smoke, unless you get injectors too. With either box, I would be careful about routinely using that torque at low RPM - it's a lot harder on the drive train than if you get the same power at higher RPM but with lower torque.

Mathew Clausen... I can only comment on the EZ box as I have not tried the VA. I put the EZ on my stock ETH and it was a real change, all for the better. I've had mine in for over 2 months now with no problems and alot of power vs. stock. I don't think that you would be dissapointed with the EZ. From what I've read on the TDR, the VA user's are also happy. I don't have any numbers to post, but if you check out the link below, it may help you make your decision.

I have run a VA for over a year now. They are great. Last week I unplugged the VA and installed an EZ. They are so close that my buttometer cannot tell the difference in power. Next, I installed the little boost elbow. Gave me 5psi more boost. Now there is some differance! The other thing I have noticed: While both of the units enhance the bottom end a great deal. The VA has a definite short surge when you are coming up from behind the turbo. It also belches out a pretty good amount of black smoke as the turbo comes on line. The EZ is very fluid in it's power. Almost electric with no short surge and no belching of smoke. The Power is there, it's just very smooth as it comes on line. Hope this helps.
