I am not an authority, but here's how I think the EZ operates:
The stock ECM is programmed with a certain fueling curve for the VP44. This curve allows more fueling at higher RPM, peaking at 2700 rpm. The ECM will allow more fueling at 2700 rpm than at 2000 rpm (assuming WOT here). This is to eliminate the liklihood of smoke and emissions.
The ECM is also programmed to "ramp up" to the programmed fueling level in such a way as to allow the turbo to spool and thus, reduce or eliminate smoke. It won't just dump in the fuel when you step on the pedal.
The EZ still works completely within the maximum fueling allowed by the OEM program in the ECM. BUT with a big difference-- instead of only allowing that highest fueling at peak rpm (2700), it makes it available across all rpms, from like 1400rpm up to 2700. Moreover, the EZ takes control of the ramp up in fuel-- it overrules the ECM when it determines how much fuel will "dump" immediately when you drop the go pedal to the floor.
This "dump" is what you are adjusting with the jumpers on the EZ. In the most aggressive setting, it will give you 66% available instantly on the dump, and then "ramp up" to 100% fueling at 3psi. Obviously, that's a really quick ramp up.
On the middle setting, the EZ makes 50% of peak fueling available instantly, and then ramps up to 100% fueling when you hit 10psi of boost.
On the tamest setting, the EZ makes up to 33% available at the drop of the pedal, and then ramps up the fueling to 100% at 20spi of boost.
So, you can see a few things. First, the difference EZ setting will NOT change PEAK power. All they change is how fast the fuel comes in, so it determines how your pedal will respond, and how much smoke you have.
The adjustments affect how steep the ramp is on the fueling curve. On the tamest setting, it's a fairly gentle climb to 100% fueling. On the most aggressive setting, it's pretty much a vertical slope!
This is also why the EZ can't make as much power as the wire tap boxes-- overall peak fueling is still limited by what's programmed into the ECM. The EZ can reshuffle the deck, but it can't change the deck it deals from.
A wire tap box, however, completely overrules the ECM fueling limits and will generate SERIOUS fueling levels. It's more like changing a regular deck to a pinochle deck-- you have a whole new game!
hope this helps!
