Less Boost= More Power

I am at setting 3. I don't believe there is any difference in response at either setting. When I was at setting 2, SOP feeling did not change. Fuel delivery is changed to reduce smoke. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. TIA

John, I was told that the difference is what boost pressure the EZ has to see before it adds fuel. 1=20PSI, 2=10PSI, and 3=2PSI.

I had mine at 3 and changed to 2 without any SOP difference. I am just curious where everyone else has theirs set. BTW, I am using the OEM boost elbow, I want to get a feel (via yet-to-be-installed gauges) for how it runs before I change to the EZ supplied elbow.

I'm about to switch from setting 3 to 2. Whenever I tow on setting 3, I end up with a huge cloud of smoke when taking off from a stop. The back of the truck and front of the trailer are turning black from soot. I was concerned that switching settings would change the whole fuel curve (and reduce the extra fueling throughout the RPM range), but PE told me that it only changes when the extra fueling starts. In other words, at 15 pounds of boost, the fuel delivery is the same for either setting 2 or 3.

Just got off the phone with EZ tech support. Kinda left me more confused than ever... But here is what I caught: Once you hit 20 PSI boost the fueling changes made by the EZ are the same regardless of what setting is used. So, the settings have no effect on maximum power but they do affect how rapidly the extra fueling comes on, based on boost pressure. Setting 3 means the EZ monitors boost from 0-10 and fuels on that schedule and once 10 PSI is reached the EZ no longer looks at boost but follows a preprogrammed curve. Setting 2 = 0-15 and fuels on that schedule and once 15 PSI is reached the EZ no longer looks at boost but follows a preprogrammed curve. Setting 1 = 0-20 and fuels on that schedule and once 20 PSI is reached the EZ no longer looks at boost but follows a preprogrammed curve. I got the impression that the EZ actually "re-maps" the fueling curve while the boost is 0-10 or 0-15 or 0-20 depending on jumper setting, and after boost reaches 10 or 15 or 20 it fuels based on it's proprogrammed curve. There it is! clear as mud :D Bottom line: They put the three levels in to allow us to determine how much smoke we want/need/enjoy/can-live-with at low boost. Nice people to talk with. He said the supplied boost elbow raises the wastegate opening from 24 (stock ETH) to 30-35, and anything above 35 for a stock turbo is really selfdefeating because if the efficiency (sp?) curve of the OEM turbo. Sooooooooooooooo, what setting is most popular?

Texas Diesel,

I noticed a difference between setting 2 and 3. I just did a test for mileage this weekend. I just filled up and to my surprise 17. 9 :D . This was running at Cummins 1800 to 2000 for mileage. I just turned 6000 miles ( not even broke in). With the VA I was at 14. 3, up to 15. 2 with the IAT changed. This is the only reason I traded my VA for the EZ was because I thought I would increase mileage on setting 2. I have put it back on setting 3, it deffinately (sp?) revs faster.

I have mine set on 2 for pulling, also have the hardline, so disabled the waste gate using the turn buckle method.

I've had mine on setting 3 ( the initial factory setting) ever since I installed it. Stock injectors, K&N, 4 in. and guages only other changes. Never any smoke. Towed trailers up to about 12k many thousands of miles up and down mountains, (Wyo, Colo. N. M. etc. never any clutch slippage. Max boost 34, max EGT's 850 post turbo.

Back when all I had was the EZ, I left it set on the most agressive setting, still there now with all the mods. I'd put the boost elbow in now for lower egt's, the fact that you are waiting on gauges is all more the reason IMHO.

Sounds like the 3's have it. I put it back on 3 this afternoon, and will leave it there unless my 5th wheel starts to turn black. I think I need the boost elbow or atleast a clamp ;) for the wategate line. Weircummin loaned me the first EZ to get me hooked... Now I wonder what a set of 275RV's would do. Hmmmm, this is turning into a hobby!! Gauges should be in tomorrow, hopefully Weircummin has some free time.

I doubt you will see much smoke with the EZ and stock injectors, I didn't anyway. Becareful on the injectors, that clutch won't hold much over stock tq, especially since you tow. Happy BOMBing :D
