Heavy towing - best bomb?

It seems to me that many of you guys with 03-04 305/555s are using the EZ box for towing. I'm not interested in anything "cutting edge" but would like some comments on a safe, reliable box that will improve towing.

I noticed on my recent trip that if I increased my RPMs (by speed or downshifting) that the truck seemed to like 2,200 better than 2,000 RPM. At the higher RPM the stock setup would seem to work harder (in a good way), pull stronger, with EGTs going from 1,000° to 1,100° (pre turbo).

I'm wondering if the Edge EZ would allow me to get a little more power at 2,000 RPM and not go over 1,200°. Towing a decent load in Arizona and New Mexico with a 75 MPH speed limit was good, but a little faster than I really wanted to go in some areas. If I could get the same performance at 70 MPH (2,000 RPM) without hurting the motor, I'd be happy.

What do you guys think?? Is the EZ the time proven way to go for towing performance?

I have been towing with the Edge EZ for about 8 or 9 months now with GCW of 20 to 30,000 lbs. and I am quite happy with it. You do need to watch EGT's though. I am using an AFE Proguard 7 and torque tube intake which seemed to be enough to keep EGT's in the safe zone. It pulls good across a wide RPM range. I like to tow at 1900 to 2000 RPM unless I need more speed to flow with traffic on faster roads. The EZ really helps for passing under load. So far no codes or problems.

If you use the EZ on level 1 or 2 you should be able to keep your egt's in check. Better intake and exhaust will definitely help. You'll notice a huge difference with the EZ though. You'll wonder what you ever did without it :D

Have had my EZ now for about 3 years and tow with it on level 3 ( the setting it comes with )

On long 6% grades I have to drive by the pyro or the temps will get too hot. I can usually keep it at 45-50 MPH and below 1200°.

I have recently added 1. 5 injectors and changed out my HY to an HX35/12 cm. I have not towed my 30' foot fiver with this setup yet. Hoping to at least keep up to the speed limit on grades and still keep the EGT's down, while having a little power in reserve to pass if I need to.

Thanks guys.

From what everyone has said, EZ is the way to go for what I'm doing. I like to take the professional approach to towing, desiring to get there without hurting the rig, not living on the edge (not to be confused with Edge EZ :)

I appreciate you sharing your experience.
