It seems to me that many of you guys with 03-04 305/555s are using the EZ box for towing. I'm not interested in anything "cutting edge" but would like some comments on a safe, reliable box that will improve towing.
I noticed on my recent trip that if I increased my RPMs (by speed or downshifting) that the truck seemed to like 2,200 better than 2,000 RPM. At the higher RPM the stock setup would seem to work harder (in a good way), pull stronger, with EGTs going from 1,000° to 1,100° (pre turbo).
I'm wondering if the Edge EZ would allow me to get a little more power at 2,000 RPM and not go over 1,200°. Towing a decent load in Arizona and New Mexico with a 75 MPH speed limit was good, but a little faster than I really wanted to go in some areas. If I could get the same performance at 70 MPH (2,000 RPM) without hurting the motor, I'd be happy.
What do you guys think?? Is the EZ the time proven way to go for towing performance?
