I am installing an EZ tomorrow on my 2001. 5. It has the auto transmission so it also has the HY35 turbo with the hardlined wastegate. The PE instuctions refer to an installation guide for this situation but it was not include with my EZ. Does anyone know what the scoop is on installing the boost elbow in this case? Can I use it in my truck or should I just disable the wastegate all together?

I will be contacting the guys at PE but thought maybe I could get a jump on the subject from all of you... . Thanks for any help.

Doug S.

The elbow can't be used. Your options are a turnbuckle, there was a post on this exact topic. Basicaly go to a hardware store and ask for one. You'll see what it looks like and how it works. It disables the wastegate.

Fred,

Thanks for the reply... I have a copy of the post you are referring to, thought that was my only option but wanted to be sure. #ad

Thanks,

Jet pilot i just looked at my directions from Power Edge on the EZ, that is right u can not use it(elbow) with the hardlined wastegate. My EZ is working great! I am getting 27# @ WOT with my elbow in. With 4" exaust have not seen anything over 1100 on my EGTs even when pulling 7000#s.

You can always use a 22 shell casing to plug the hardline. I have had one in there for 7K miles and have not had a problem. I see 40 lbs of boost at WOT.

Is it necessary to disable the wastegate when using the EZ? What are the advantages/disadvantages? EZ on my '01 and pulling a 25' 5er, 8500#s

Thanks
Bill

Bill,

If your truck is a 2001 and you have what is called a "hardlined wastgate" the boost elbow included with your EZ cannot be installed... What you can do is disable the wastegate, this will allow you to create more boost (effect is lower EGT's).

Now if you truck doesn't have the hardlined wastegate an you installed the boost elbow that came with your EZ I don't think there is any real advantage to this.

OK guys if I didn't get this right let the flogging commence.

romeo, we disable the wastegate to build more boost. More boost equals lower egt's. If you have a HY35 the wastegate is hardlined, i. e. , disable via the turnbuckle method. If your turbo is a HX35, then you have a boost elbow that you simply swap out with an aftermarket elbow or plug, in order to build more boost. When you installed your EZ, did you replace the boost elbow ? I don't know if you '01 is an auto or manual.

Scott, the EX came with an elbow which I did nothing with. The truck is '01, A/T. Thanks for all the info guys.

Not for anything guys but with the . 22 shell thing, Why don't you just take off the actuator and bring the hardline part with you and match up a allen grub screw and tap the elbow and drill the screw with (i think a #6 bit) and screw it in place . The banks kit I did was much the same basicly a grub screw with a hole (the hole is a bleed) in it to allow thw wastegate to function ..... only it opens up at 40 psi instead of twenty. I run arround with 38 pounds and only when I let off fast on the gas will it "dump" when the guage spikes 41 or so.
