I puschased a used set to paint body color and install for winter to help with stone tips, etc. I may or may not remove them in summer, depending on the look with stock mags. My questions are: 1. Is the top to be taped to the body? can I use wetherstripping to prevent scratches? will they lay flat without the tape 2. I was told they are a "no drill", but my truck doesn't have the holes in the lip for them, so what is the best way to prevent rust from the new drilled holes? 3. What kind of hardware? I didn't see stainless steel screws at Lowes.

Can't answer the questions about the flares, but in regards to rustproofing the holes here is what I do. First, make sure you get rid of all the drill chips, they rust easily and spread the rust. Debur and clean the area around the hole then get some touch up paint at the dealer and thoroughly coat the inside/perimeter of the hole. After the paint dries coat the screw/bolt with clear silicone caulk. Install the fastener and coat it, back and front, with silicone. Haven't had a fastener rust yet.

yup, thats what I was thinking, in addition I will use the rust converter (turns metal & rust black) first before paint.
