factory bed rail guards??

Has anyone used any tailgate and bed side rail protectors, and will they hurt my paint? I want the diamond plate, but will go with over the rail spray-in liner if I have to... thanks in advance

I have stainless steel diamond plate gate and rail protectors I bought though Napa. Judging by the loads I've hauled and the scars on the protectors they've done a good job protecting the paint even if they are wearing it off underneath. I've never removed them to see what's going on under them but they are held to the top of the rail by double sided tape, which should cushion them, with bolts though the insides.
